Duties

Help

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Serving as the principal bureau/service contact for coordination, implementation, and/or enforcement of assigned information cybersecurity policies and portfolios.
  • Initiating, developing, implementing, and evaluating security programs, including the implementation of security programs designed to anticipate, assess, and minimize system vulnerabilities such as intrusion detection or access authentication programs.
  • Drafting and/or developing operational policies, procedures, and criteria for interfacing with program systems resources.
  • Developing and providing compliance oversight for implementation of systems cybersecurity policies, guidelines and procedures related to web-based applications, network, and systems designs.
  • Providing expert advice, counsel, and instruction to employees and supervisors on cybersecurity issues.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience for the grade level in which you are applying:

GS-13:
Applicants must have Information Technology (IT)-related experience demonstrating each of the following competencies: (1) attention to Detail - is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail; (2) customer service - works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services; (3) oral communication - expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. (4) problem solving - identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service performing the following:
Have at least one (1) year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service performing the following: (1) the design and implementation of security controls on computing based environments as specified by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) guidance; (2) performing IT Security risk assessment and analysis on cloud, centralized, and local based applications and platforms; (3) providing in-depth technical expertise to ensure sound risk management and cybersecurity safeguard principles are practiced; and 4) developing strategies and/or workable technical solutions for major IT security tasks resulting from operational and strategic planning.

Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary. Some work may involve travel to and attendance at meetings and conferences away from the work site. Some employees may carry light items such as papers, books, or small parts, or drive a motor vehicle. The work does not require any special physical effort.

Working Conditions: The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. The work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions. Some employees may occasionally be exposed to uncomfortable conditions in such places as research facilities.
