Duties

Help
  • Performs diagnostic checks and repairs computer controlled engines.
  • All metal fabrication work on boats in the fleet to modify or provide for specialized equipment.
  • Perform gas and arc welding on all types of metals such as steel, stainless steel, aluminum and bronze.
  • Prepares hulls surfaces for application of paints and barrier coatings by sanding, sandblasting, filling and fairing hull damage areas.
  • Operates boats ranging in size from 14 feet to 60 feet which includes 36 foot push boats and up to 65 foot barges.
  • Must have knowledge of safe work practices and how to use appropriate safety equipment/devices and apply that knowledge on the job.
  • Ground or water disturbing projects must be done carefully to minimize disturbance of the recreation area's plants, animals, soils and waters.

  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Department of Interior Motorboat Operator Certification (DOIMOC)
  • If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or
  • (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Physical Demands: Physical exertion related to actions such as lifting, pushing heavy objects, pulling or carrying objects of various weights, sizes and shapes up to 75 lbs is required. Physical effort related to movements such as walking, climbing ladders, crawling and bending is required. Strain related to lack of movement is also involved for extended periods of time when operating a vehicle.

Working Conditions: Incumbent will be exposed to extremes of temperature and weather conditions. Temperatures range is from well below 32 degree to over 100 degrees, with low humidity. Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all seasons, and in all types of weather including rain, wind, sleet snow, etc. Incumbent will be exposed to possibilities of cuts, bruises, splinters, and exposure to muscle strain. Frequently requires incumbent to utilize vessels and resultant exposure to wet and hazardous conditions. May also be required to work prolonged tours of duty during emergency situations.
