Duties

Help
  • Monitor and analyze aquatic resources including fish and amphibian habitat and their populations.
  • Develop study plans for interdisciplinary projects.
  • Conduct fish habitat evaluations.
  • Prepare environmental compliance documents.
  • Write technical reports and proposals on impacts to aquatic life.
  • Design and implement Aquatic Habitat Restoration or Enhancement projects associated with placer mining.

Qualifications

We must be able to determine that you meet the specialized experience requirement - please be sure to include this information in your resume. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. To be creditable, this experience must have been for 1 year and equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade of the position to be filled. (If the position was seasonal, your resume must show periods worked.

In order to be qualified for the position, you must meet the following Basic Requirements AND Minimum Qualifications below.

Basic Requirements:

A Bachelor's or higher degree with a major in biological science that included: At least 6 semester hours in aquatic subjects such as limnology, ichthyology, fishery biology, aquatic botany, aquatic fauna, oceanography, fish culture, or related courses in the field of fishery biology; and At least 12 semester hours in the animal sciences in such subjects as general zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, entomology, parasitology, ecology, cellular biology, genetics, or research in these fields. (Excess course work in aquatic subjects may be used to meet this requirement when appropriate.) (MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS)

OR

A combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), of which a minimum of 6 semester hours were in aquatic subjects and 12 semester hours were in the animal sciences, as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. (MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS)

AND

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
GS-11:

Specialized Experience: At least one full time year of specialized equivalent at least the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates your experience in:

  • Evaluating inventory and monitoring data to determine fish habitat and population trends and impacts;
  • Participating in writing or reviewing technical reports for Environmental Assessments and Impact Statements;
  • Conducting surveys to monitor existing aquatic management habitat projects; and
  • Working with a variety of groups to share information pertaining to fish biology and aquatic habitat conservation, laws, and regulations.
OR

Education: Possess 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in fishery biology. (MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS)

OR

Combination of Education and Specialized Experience: A combination of the specialized experience described above and graduate level education described above that totals 100% when combined. To determine your combination, first compute your experience as a percentage of the experience listed above; then determine your education as a percentage of the education listed above; then add the two percentages. Only graduate education in excess of two years (i.e., 36 semester hours) may be combined with experience under this provision. (MUST SUBMIT TRANSCRIPTS)

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
