Work schedule
Full-time - You may be required to work weekends, holidays and overtime work.
The selectee performs a variety of duties related to janitorial, grounds keeping, and facilities maintenance. Does full range of cleaning duties in an assigned area. Scrubs, strips, waxes and polishes floors using heavy powered scrubbers and buffers. Washes walls using powered machine or by hand. Vacuums/cleans rugs using heavy vacuum cleaner. Adjusts, cleans, and oils these machines and changes parts as needed. Washes blinds, windows, ceiling fixtures, etc. using ladders. Moves heavy furniture, supplies, and equipment. Replaces and/or installs paper goods etc. in restrooms. Removes stains from flooring surfaces. Changes lightbulbs. As required, keeps shop areas clean and in order. Sweeps and wet mops floor and removes oil, hydraulic fluid, grease, and other spilled liquids. Moves heavy boxes, crates, parts, and other obstacles in order to clean up the area and picks up scraps of assorted materials. Performs general trash and rubbish collection and removal from areas such as offices, restrooms, public areas, etc. Operates a light duty pickup truck in performance of duties. Operates lawn care equipment for standard grounds care activities. Occasionally provides general labor assistance to others in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, roads, trails, etc. Completes daily work reports.

AREA INFORMATION: Theodore Roosevelt National Park is located in the badlands of western North Dakota and includes the Theodore Roosevelt Wilderness Area. The park consists of three separate units: South Unit, Elkhorn Ranch Unit, and North Unit. The colorful Little Missouri River badlands provide a scenic backdrop to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, which is home to a variety of plants and abundant wildlife, including bison, elk, wild horses, long horn steers, and bighorn sheep.
The park headquarters is located in Medora, North Dakota, where limited medical facilities, shopping, and schools grades K-12 are located nearby. Complete services and a college are located in Dickinson, 42 miles east of Medora. The North Unit is 70 miles north by road from the South Unit and park headquarters. Medora is a seasonal town with a variety of services available from Memorial Day through Labor Day.
Summers are warm and sunny with temperatures occasionally reaching 100 degrees F. Afternoon thunderstorms are common. Winters are invigorating, with temperatures sometimes reaching -35 degrees F. SCREEN OUT: Perform the most difficult and complex laborer and custodial/janitorial tasks including ability to operate trucks and trailers weighing up to 10,000 pounds; properly loading and unloading various supplies and equipment; perform work providing laboring assistance to others in the maintenance of buildings, grounds, roads, trails, cleaning restrooms, windows, vacuuming carpets, floors, emptying trash and recyclables; operate power equipment such as floor scrubbers, floor buffers and floor strippers; and safely use a variety of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, hammers, saws, etc. Able to safely operate these vehicles/equipment in all types of traffic and weather conditions. Utilize most hand and power tools associated with these tasks including light hand and power and cleaning custodial tools. Have experience performing operator maintenance on all vehicles/equipment operated (e.g., monitoring fluid levels, and checking tire pressure). Perform these duties as an expert with a high degree of independence. Receive assigned work orally, through work orders, or with written specifications. Work will be checked to see that it meets compliance with work and safety standards and policies.
