Summary

This position serves as a Writer-Editor located in the U.S. Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women (OVW). OVW provides federal leadership in developing the nation's capacity to reduce gender-based violence and administer justice for victims of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking. The primary purpose of the position is to write and edit materials such as: policies, briefs, articles, reports, training materials, brochures, speeches, and/or scripts.

Duties

Help

The duties and responsibilities for a 1082 Writer-Editor generally include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Researches and analyzes pertinent laws, regulations, policies, and programs as related to Violence Against Women to develop complete and accurate statements and publications.
2. Writes, gathers, develops, and checks the accuracy of information through research and interviews with subject-matter specialists and other Office on Violence Against Women staff members.
3. Assist staff and action officers in preparing clear, accurate and concisely written documents.
4. Develops strategic communication messages based on office leadership guidance.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Writer-Editor, (GS-1082-12/13), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to the series and grade you are applying to.

To qualify for the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service performing the following duties:

  1. Possessing familiarity with policies, programs, and current issues related to violence against women, victims and survivors of crimes, and related Programs.
  2. Gathering or checking the accuracy of information through research or interviews.
  3. Writing or editing materials such as policies, briefs, articles, reports, training materials, brochures, speeches, and/or scripts.

To qualify for the GS-13, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service performing the following duties:
  1. Possessing familiarity with policies, programs, and current issues related to violence against women, victims and survivors of crimes, and related Programs.
  2. Providing editorial and proofreading assistance to lower-level staff to ensure written communication meets style and format guidance.
  3. Writing and editing materials such as policies, briefs, articles, reports, training materials, brochures, speeches, and/or scripts.
