BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: Applicants must meet A or B below to satisfy the basic education requirement for Librarian, all grade levels.
A. Completion of 1 full academic year of graduate study in library science in an accredited college or university, in addition to completion of all work required for a bachelor's degree;
B. A total of at least 5 years of a combination of college-level education, training, and experience. To qualify on this basis, the applicant must establish conclusively that the education, training, and experience provided a knowledge and understanding of the theories, principles, and techniques of professional librarianship; a knowledge of literature resources; and the knowledge and abilities essential for providing effective library and information services.
GS- 09:**OR Possess a combination of graduate level education as described above, beyond the first year of progressive graduate study, and appropriate professional experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.
GS-11:
In addition to the Basic Education Requirement as described above, applicants must meet the following to qualify for the GS-11 level:
Possess one year of experience at the GS-9 level or equivalent providing coordination and technical oversight of multiple research library functions needed to organize and maintain collections and deliver scientific materials and information services, 2) Providing research and reference support in an earth, natural sciences, or biology research and science library setting; utilizing subject knowledge of scientific library collections, terminologies, and concepts to answer complex questions and identify resources to support research needs; 3) Providing research literature search services, training and outreach to scientists and professionals in a science library setting. NOTE: This information must be supported in your resume to be considered for the position.
**OR Possess 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education in library science or doctoral degree (PhD or equivalent) related to the position.
**OR Possess a combination of graduate level education as described in above, beyond the first two years of progressive graduate study, and appropriate professional experience that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.
