Help

  1. Lead three or more full-time employees on a regular and recurring basis in which the highest subordinate grade level is GS-05.
  2. Keep in touch with the status and progress of work and make day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise.
  3. Estimate and report on expected time of completion of work and maintain records of work accomplishments and time expended and prepare production reports as requested.
  4. Instruct employees in specific tasks and job techniques and make available written instructions, reference materials, and supplies.
  5. Provide on the job training, mentoring, and coaching to employees, volunteers, and/or interns in accordance with established procedures and practices.
  6. Answer questions of other employees on procedures, policies, directives, etc. and obtain needed information or decisions from supervisor on problems that come up.
  7. Check on work in progress or spot check work not requiring review (e. g., using cash register) and review completed work to see that supervisor's instruction on work sequence, procedures, methods and deadlines have been met.
  8. Amend or reject work not meeting established guidelines, and refer questions or problems not covered by established procedures, policies, and regulations to the supervisor.
  9. Monitor working conditions such as seating/standing, ventilation, lighting, safety, etc.
  10. Report to supervisor on performance, progress and training needs of employees, and on behavior problems.
  11. Provide information to supervisor as requested concerning promotions, reassignment, recognition of outstanding performance, and personnel needs.
  12. Accountable for government money and passes.
  13. Work outside in extreme weather conditions (heat/cold, humidity/rain).
  14. Be able to walk up/down 50+ stairs multiple times per day.
  15. May be standing on granite or hard surfaces up to seven (7) hours/day, or eight (8) if on a VC/fee collection duty.
  16. Respond verbally to repetitive visitors' inquiries for information, direction and guidance.
  17. Provide direction, information, and orientation regarding services or activities of interest to the public.
  18. Serve as a front-line representative, greeting customers and answering questions.
  19. Explain the significance of an area's facility's natural, cultural, historic, or other resources.
  20. Assist the public in planning visits to and recommending activities in the area.
  21. Give scripted 60 second orientation safety talk.
  22. Assist with giving historic weapon demonstrations.
  23. Help work special events.
Additional Information: If you choose to live on the mainland your commute and employment time may exceed 11 hours/day plus driving time to your residence. Ferry Passes on the Miller Boat Line will be approximate $480/year.

AREA INFORMATION: Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial (PEVI) is a 25-acre site located at Put-in-Bay, Ohio on South Bass Island in western Lake Erie. The only commercial access to South Bass Island is by ferry or plane from April to November. Annually, approximately 150,000 visitors have the opportunity to take the elevator to the top of the 352-foot Monument. On the park grounds there is visitor center, ranger station, administrative office, maintenance facility, and nine park housing units. Services in Put-In-Bay include a bank, churches, EMS services, grocery store, gas station, K-12 school, library, police, restaurants, and shops. Other services are located on the mainland in Port Clinton and nearby Sandusky. Park housing may be available.

A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.

Physical Demands: This position requires standing for long periods of time, as well as walking, bending, and lifting of moderately heavy items. Mental stress and physical fatigue may occur due to the high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money. If applicable, extreme physical exertion may be required while performing search and rescue or emergency response duties.

Working Conditions: This position typically works at an entrance station, campground office, visitor center, and/or visitor contact station. Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain, or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone and/or in isolated locations.The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.

  • Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Qualifications

All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-01/07/2022-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

To qualify for this position at the GS-6 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-5 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: Leading 3 or more in performing fee collection, accounting or financial duties to include operating a point-of-sale system; using an automated financial system to perform accounting and/or financial transactions; ensuring accountability of funds and accurate financial record; and resolving software issues that arise in the remittance and/or fee collection process. Your resume must include hours per week worked.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Non-Competitive Rehire Eligibility: Temporary seasonal employees can only maintain their non-competitive rehire eligibility if they work no more than a combined total of Temporary NTE less than 1040 hours anywhere in the National Park Service (NPS) within their established service year. Accordingly, non-competitive rehire eligibility allows for re-appointment to the same position or another position appropriate for temporary appointment with the same qualification requirements (5 CFR 316.402[b][7]), based on series and grade, anywhere in the major subdivision (NPS).

If you have held a temporary seasonal appointment in the past 12 months and have already worked the maximum temporary appointment less than 1040 hours during that period, you are still welcome to apply. However, please be aware that exceeding the limit of 1040 hours in your established service year will result in the loss of your non-competitive rehire eligibility.
