This position is part of the Department Of Energy, Office of Science, Office of the Deputy Director for Science Programs, Office of Communications & Public Affairs. Duties

Help

As a full performance GS13 Communication Specialist, you will:

  • Perform a wide variety of strategic communications and outreach programs that manages, controls, and executes the planning, direction, and timely delivery of internal communications and engagement activities.
  • Identify communication problems to be solved, actionable events to amplify, and deadlines/timelines for completion.
  • Prepare or edit organizational publications for internal audiences, including newsletters, fact sheets, brochures, etc.
  • Coordinate and conduct/communication and outreach activities related to long- range and short-range planning.
  • Establish and lead the Office of Science Internal Communications customer group.
  • Improve employee communications and engagement by collaborating with senior leadership to improve and ensure the implementation of communications plans.

Qualifications

GS11: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-9) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:

  1. Assisting in a variety of strategic communications and outreach programs.
  2. Using a full range of concepts and techniques of marketing and communications skills to provide program information material.
  3. Assisting in developing materials to convey information in a professional format for publication.
  4. Using digital technology and web applications to assist in developing informational materials for dissemination.
or
Successfully completed 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
or
A combination of education and experience that together meets the requirements for this position.

GS12: A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as:
  1. Developing relationships with internal and external stakeholders to assist with communication of program activities and outreach goals.
  2. Using digital technology and web applications to develop informational materials for dissemination.
  3. Analyzing best practices for communicating scientific information to a variety of audiences.
  4. Evaluating the effectiveness of communications plans and recommending areas for improvement.
