    This position is located in Public Affairs Operations, Office of the Assistant to the Secretary of Defense (Public Affairs) (OATSD(PA). The ATSD is the principal advisor to the Secretary of Defense for the Department of Defense public information, internal information, community relations, public affairs professional development and audiovisual matters.

    Incumbent typical work assignments may include the following:

    • Conducts public affairs programs within the Department of Defense with responsibility for planning, designing, executing and evaluating national campaigns and programs to inform and educate the general public through the news media about the organization's programs,
      activities, and policies.
    • Provides public affairs advice and guidance to senior officials and staff members in those offices and develops information materials for release to the public through the news media and works with the creative team to release on social media and defense.gov.
    • Evaluates communications programs in the field and recommends modification when appropriate.
    • Researches, writes, reviews, coordinates and edits material proposed for public release to ensure accuracy, clarity, completeness, timeliness, and consistency with Department policies and in conformity with information security regulations.

    Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.
