Create integrated pest management plans for a managed landscape or protected ecosystem. Develop and implement inventory and monitoring protocols. Manage biological and physical ecosystem data, interpret results from statistical analyses, and make management recommendations based on conclusions. Develop guidance and mitigations to minimize adverse impacts to vegetation from proposed projects and actions. Write technical and scientific reports on the results of natural resource, restoration, inventories, monitoring, or research activities.
Develop plans for the management of vegetative resources for implementation. Direct planning, scheduling, and oversight for a program of natural resource management activities involving native and non-native vegetation. Develop and maintain liaisons and effective working relationships with related groups and individuals, agencies, and the public in order to encourage and facilitate cooperative management strategies. Apply Federal and State environmental laws and regulations to planning efforts to ensure compliance in natural resource management project designs and processes.
Manage natural resources projects (e.g. forest management, invasive plant management, ecological restoration), including planning, budget, coordination, implementation, and tracking. Create science-based project goals and objectives, plus monitoring objectives to measure results. Plan project logistics, staffing, equipment, schedules, and budgets to meet project goals and objectives. Prepare written grant proposals related to natural resource management or science studies. Provide presentations of scientific information and results of scientific investigations to a diverse array of audiences such as the general public, scientists, stakeholders, and park management officials.
Assign, direct and review the work and performance of subordinate employees involved in resource management. Lead field crews in the collection and management of natural resource data, including forest mensuration and invasive plant treatment and monitoring. Establish performance objectives and assess staff performance following all personnel regulations. Correct conduct, inappropriate behavior or poor performance following established policies and procedures.
Performs supervisory duties up to 20% of the time.
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
You will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
Drivers License: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
Work Schedule: You will be on a mixed work schedule where the work schedule may change from full-time to part-time and vice versa. The work schedule for this position approximately 10 months full-time (40 hrs/week) and 2 months part-time (16-32 hrs/week). In addition, you may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or overtime.
Trial Period: You will be required to complete a one-year trial period.
Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
Minimum Age Requirement: Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

BASIC REQUIREMENT: You must possess one of the following Basic Qualifications:
Successful completion of at least a full four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a discipline closely related to this position. Successful completion of an appropriate combination of education and experience that included course work equivalent to a major (i.e. 24 semester hours) in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a discipline closely related to this position; PLUS appropriate experience or additional course work. The quality of the combination demonstrates that the applicant possesses the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform the work of the position and is comparable to that normally acquired through the completion of a full four-year course of study with a major as described above. You must include a copy of your transcripts at the time of application.
- AND - SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess at least one of the following qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). Specialized experience includes experience such as: implementing a variety of natural resource protection, mitigation, or restoration projects as part of an interdisciplinary team; evaluating resource management, protection and restoration projects for compliance with management objectives; monitoring biological conditions to assess vegetative resource status and needs; collecting, analyzing, and synthesizing scientific natural resource information; drafting work plans and implementing strategies for natural resource management projects/activities; and/or presenting scientific natural resource information and results of scientific investigations to both technical and nontechnical audiences. You must include hours per week worked . -OR-
EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least three years of graduate education (54 semester hours) leading to a doctorate degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or a discipline related to this position; OR physical science, engineering, or mathematics or a discipline closely related to this position. Successful completion of a COMBINATION of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take the amount of completed qualifying doctoral level education and convert it to a percentage of the total educational requirement. NOTE: Only the graduate education in excess of 36 semester hours or 54 quarter hours or the equivalent may be creditable when combining. Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. Physical Demands: This position requires strenuous activity with long periods of standing, walking, climbing, and lifting and carrying heavy objects. Research and report writing is sedentary. Some work may occur in physically dangerous areas.
Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and out of doors. Outdoor work is performed in all types of weather. Assignments may be performed in potentially hazardous areas including steep slopes, rock terrain, caves, firelines, and forests.
Telework: The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
Nongovernment housing: may be available for rent in the local communities of Groveland, Mariposa, Midpines, Bootjack, Oakhurst, and Catheys Valley. El Portal is a small community bordering the west side of Yosemite National Park and 15 miles west of Yosemite Valley.
Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.
