EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government.
-OR-
Combination of education and experience- at least 30 semester hours that included courses as shown above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

In addition you must also meet the following requirements:

EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-9 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) that provided the knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of an Archivist successfully. Examples of qualifying experience include: assisting with processing, arranging, rehousing and describing multi-format archival standards; establishing hierarchies and developing classification systems to facilitate access to archival materials; authenticating and appraising historical documents and archival materials; creating and maintaining electronic archives and databases for cataloging archival and manuscript collections, and assisting in writing technical reports such as project task directives, scopes of work, surveys, completion reports and finding aids relating to archival cataloging. You must include hours per week worked.
-OR-
EDUCATION: Successfully completed three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in an accredited educational institution concentrated in a field that is directly related to the work of this position, such as archival science or history, that involved the collection, appraisal, analysis, or synthesis of information having historical or archival values. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated.
