Open Only to Contiguous Area Residents of Virgin Islands National Park
This position is a full-time, permanent position stationed at Virgin Islands National Park, located on the island of St. John. The primary duties include collecting, accounting for, and processing facility use fees collected at the Trunk Bay Fee collection station. Appointee serves as a front line, uniformed representative of the National Park Service, and will be required to contact and interact with hundreds, to thousands, of park users daily. The appointee must be able to deal with multiple park users simultaneously, often under stressful conditions, while maintaining a calm and professional demeanor. Other duties may include visitor management related services such as: assisting with traffic control, assisting with crowd control, taking and coordinating lost and found reports, and special event set- up / take down. In addition Visitor Use Assistants provide information to park users about park rules and regulations, as well as assisting with and communicate emergency situations to the National Park Service dispatch. The appointee will be required to pass a background investigation and credit check.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Physical Demands: Standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items and sedentary work is required. Mental stress and physical fatigue occur due to high volume of personal contacts and the responsibility of dealing with large amounts of money.
Working Conditions: Work is often performed in small, outdoor structures with open windows which results in exposure to extremes of temperature, rain, snow, wind, and direct sunlight. Park areas may be geographically located in areas of high elevation, rugged terrain or dense populations. High levels of vehicle noise and emissions may exist during heavy visitation periods. Duties may be performed alone in isolated locations.

ADDITIONAL DUTY LOCATION INFORMATION: This position is located in the U.S. Virgin Islands. Park headquarters is located on the beautiful and tranquil island of St. John which is less than 20 square miles in area and has a population of 3,000 - 5,000 people. The island was severely damaged during the 2017 hurricane season and is still in the recovery phase of reconstruction. There is one bank; a small medical clinic; several local physicians; two grocery stores; several smaller markets, two hardware stores, and many specialty shops and restaurants. The nearby Island of St. Thomas is accessible by passenger ferry (20 minutes) and car barge and offers an airport, a wider variety of shopping, including bulk food stores, hardware stores and general merchandise shops, hospital etc. Public and private schools are available on St John. Public schools offer kindergarten through 8th grade and private schools offer pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Most students on St John commute to St Thomas to attend high school. The cost of living in the Virgin Islands is much higher than average costs in cities across the US mainland.
