Duties

Help

As a Mechanical Engineer, GS-0830-12, with the National Park Service (NPS), your duties will include, but are not limited to:

  • Provide mechanical engineering services, advice and guidance on the assessment, planning, designing, constructing, expansion, rehabilitation and/or re-purposing of existing and/or new structures and facilities.
  • Conduct research, investigations, assessment and evaluations of environments within historic structures, museums, visitor facilities, and curatorial facilities.
  • Develop engineering drawings and specifications for contracting the construction of mechanical systems.
  • Conduct and/or supervise physical inventories of buildings, monuments, utilities, and other structures.
  • Collaborate with historical architects and architectural conservators in the research, investigation, analysis, and documentation activities required in producing historic structure reports.
  • Participate as a member of a team to solicit, select and manage Architectural/Engineering (A/E) firms for design tasks and construction phase services.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for the Mechanical Engineer, GS-0830-12 position, you must meet the following basic education requirements:

In addition to meeting the basic education requirement, you must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal Service applying mechanical engineering concepts, principles and practices for advice and guidance on the assessment, planning, designing, constructing, expansion, rehabilitation and/or re-purposing of existing historic and non-historic structures or facilities which includes: conducting research, investigation, assessments and evaluations; developing engineering and architectural drawings and specifications and overseeing contractor work on historic preservation and non-historic facilities projects.
