The Park Security Guard provides security services to the Gateway Arch Complex by monitoring and screening visitors as they enter the complex with the use of walk-through magna-scanners and scanning visitors' personal belongings with radiographic (x-ray) equipment. The Park Security Guard is normally the first person the visitor will encounter and the position requires a normal degree of tact and courtesy with the public contacts while ensuring compliance with pertinent rules and regulations governing facility access and physical security. The position is at a fixed post. Training is accomplished by using computer based training (CBT) programs. Basic skill in operating computers is helpful.
There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement.
This announcement may be used to fill additional positions if identical vacancies occur within 90 days of the issue date of the referral certificate.
Individuals selected under this vacancy announcement are eligible for the possibility of extensions or rehire in subsequent service years.
Physical Demands: Long periods of standing or sitting in limited space for 8 hours or more. Must also be able to lift 30 pounds continuously and 50 pounds occasionally. Must have correctable vision and the ability to distinguish between colors to operate screening software.
Work Environment: Works closely with others and in constant noise during days of heavy visitation. Work fluctuates between indoors within a climate controlled facility and outdoors performing package pre-screening functions on the Arch entrance ramp, roving patrols of grounds or stand in a fixed post. High stress environment due to hours and sheer volume of visitors with unknown potential risks associated with security screening operations. Operation of x-ray equipment exposes to a level of risk to radiation exposure therefore all safety procedures and other precautions are mandatory.
