Summary

The primary purpose of these positions is to transport personnel, material, or equipment to work sites located on the park.

Temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours in a service year may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs.

The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is May-October but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2019.

Duties

Help
  • Safely transport passengers or cargo to their destinations throughout rural or urban areas on the park and/or public roads in a full range of traffic conditions.
  • Operate one or more motor vehicles including Dump trucks, Front-end loaders, etc. to transport passengers, supplies, materials, or equipment and tools.
  • Load cargo onto vehicles, using appropriate tie-downs such as chains, binders, or straps for transit on public roads at highway speeds or under similar driving circumstances.
  • Perform laborer or custodial duties including picking up litter and trash, cutting grass, weed whacking, shoveling, painting picnic tables, washing equipment, maintaining equipment, and unloading deliveries.

  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males .
  • Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record.
  • You must also submit (in a sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

  3. Ability to Drive Safely (Motor Vehicles) (JE#-86-A);

  6. Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) (JE#-25-A);

For this position, work is defined as operating and maintaining motor vehicles to transport passengers, supplies, materials, or equipment and tools; operating snow plows to remove snow and ice; operating front end loaders to move and load material, and performing routine operator maintenance of vehicles operated.

Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

Physical Demands: The work performed requires the exertion of moderate physical effort. Considerable physical effort may be required to change tires, and make limited emergency repairs. The work involves frequently lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds. Work may involve climbing ladders, scaffolding, and working in and around power tools and equipment.

Working Conditions: Outside work is performed under all kinds of weather conditions. Work requires the employee to operate vehicles in all types of traffic and weather on public roads (or the equivalent) and is exposed to the danger of serious accidents.

You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
