Summary

The primary purpose of these positions is to perform Tractor Operator duties in support of grounds and facility maintenance.

Temporary positions not-to-exceed 1039 regular hours in a service year may be terminated sooner or extended depending on management needs.

The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is May-October but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: May 2019.

Duties

Help
  • Operate tractors with towed or attached equipment to maintain grounds and road medians on both level and rolling terrain such as open fields, road surfaces, ditches banks, hills, roadsides, etc.
  • Hook up and operate various attachments and auxiliary equipment such as backhoes, brush-hogs, chippers, cutter bars, movable dozer blades, front-end loaders, harrows, mowers, post-hole diggers, plows, street blower, trailers, wagons, etc.
  • Check fuel, and service tractors before operation; perform preventive maintenance, minor repairs, and adjustments to farm tractors and auxiliary equipment.
  • Read, interpret, and apply tractor and equipment operation and maintenance manuals; troubleshoot problems relating to equipment operation.
  • Apply fertilizers using spreaders and aerators as needed; properly clean and store tractors and equipment after use.

For this position, work is defined as operating a variety of farm-type tractors and towed or attached equipment including, mowers, aerators, plows, harrows, chippers, sprayers, disks, post hole diggers, front-end loading devices, movable dozer blades, and backhoes.

Physical Demands: The work performed requires the exertion of heavy to strenuous physical effort. Requires frequently lifting and moving objects over 50 pounds, stooping, bending, climbing and working in cramped positions.

Working Conditions: Work location is outside, potentially in extreme temperatures. Work may require the employee to be exposed to chemical dust and sprays and may need to wear protective clothing.
