Duties

Help

The duties and responsibilities for a Supervisory Auditor, GS-0511-14 generally include, but are not limited to, the following:

* Oversee the internal audit program of the Department's Offices, Boards and Divisions compliance with OMB Circular A-123
* Exercise supervisory management responsibilities over assigned employees.
* Lead projects from initial risk assessment and scoping through fieldwork to final reporting.
* Develop risk-based testing programs and tailoring audit procedures to evaluate internal controls.
* Review and sign off on staff work papers to ensure strict compliance with standards like Generally Accepted Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS) or GAAP.
* Draft audit findings and final reports for agency leadership.
* Determine root cause of failures establish remediation timelines.
* Utilize automated data analysis and computer-assisted auditing techniques (CAATs), such as Power BI, Power Query or SQL to query large data sets.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Supervisory Auditor, at GS-0511-14, you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below.

Applicants must meet both the Basic Education Requirement (see Education field below) AND the specialized experience.

Specialized Experience: For the GS-14, you must have one year of specialized experience at the GS-13 grade level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service leading audits or data-analytic projects to evaluate accounting systems and/or operational programs; developing audit approaches to identify risks, design testing procedures AND provide results of audits to senior leadership.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: Professional certifications such as Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), or Certified Government Financial Manager (CGFM).

You MUST meet all qualification requirements, including time-in-grade, by the 09/15/2026 of this announcement.

Education

Basic Requirements:
1. Degree: accounting, auditing; or a degree including auditing courses in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. (NOTE: Transcripts must be provided)

2. Combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following:

Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements. Education must be reviewed and certified by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education, in order for it to be creditable towards your qualifications. Therefore, provide only the attendance and/or degrees from accredited institution.

You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in a conventional U.S. education program. If you are qualifying on foreign education, you MUST submit proof of creditability of education as evaluated by a credentialing agency.
