This position is being filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority and is open to U.S. Citizens and Nationals who meet all eligibility requirements, including permanent and exclusive residency within the defined vicinity of the field unit as described in this announcement. Under this authority, veterans' preference and traditional rating and ranking procedures do not apply.
Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:
As a senior Preservationist, the incumbent performs journey-level trade work related to historic preservation and provides expertise and/or training to lower-level trade positions.
Perform a variety of journey-level preservation trade work needed to build, maintain, restore, and/or preserve historic structures and landscapes. Such structures and landscapes include but are not limited to historic buildings, monuments, memorials, markers, signs, etc.
Identify and document of various forms of historic fabric. Evaluate the condition of historic masonry, wooden, and metal structural elements.
Assists in the inspection of historic structures, sites, and landscapes to determine physical condition and the type and amount of maintenance required to maintain in proper condition and make technical recommendations to specialists regarding preservation treatments.
Read, interpret and apply building plans, specifications, blueprints, sketches, working drawings and building codes.
Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work approximately 11.5 months in pay status, and you will be in a non-pay status .5 month (month ranging from early-January to mid-January) depending on weather and workload priorities.

Physical Effort: Duties require the incumbent to sit, stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, crawl, work in uncomfortable positions, and walk over rough, uneven terrain. The incumbent wears protective clothing, gloves, face shields, and/or respirator that may be uncomfortable; and the incumbent works from ladders, scaffolds, and elevated platforms. The incumbent may be occasionally expected to lift and/or carry items up to and exceeding 50 pounds in weight. Must be able to lift 50 pounds.
Work Conditions: Work is both indoors and outdoors. Work outside may be subject to extreme weather conditions, with wind, rain, snow, and ice, in temperatures ranging from below 0 to over 100 degrees. Depending on the geography of the park unit assigned, work may take place at elevations ranging from sea level up to 10,000 feet. The incumbent is exposed to dust, noise, vibration, cuts, and abrasions from the use of tools and equipment, and may occasionally be exposed to hazardous materials that can cause skin, eye, and respiratory irritation and burns, as well as microbiological organisms and potentially hazardous wildlife. The incumbent is expected to wear personnel protective equipment as required and comply with all safety and occupational health requirements.
