Summary

You will serve as a Maintenance Worker - Field Unit Local Hire Authority (FUL) for Yellowstone National Park

Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as permanent appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will be placed in a pay status and can expect to work a minimum of 24 pay periods not to exceed a maximum of 25 pay periods, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.

Some of the major duties you will perform include but are not limited to the following:

This position provides routine maintenance on park facilities including, minor carpentry, painting, plumbing and electrical work.
Assist higher grade maintenance employees in the performance of maintenance tasks.
Safely and effectively, use hand power tools required for the job and has the ability to maintain these tools properly.
Performs routine maintenance on campground sites and trails using hand tools to re-grade and reset barriers to restore areas to original appearances.
Collects trash.
Operates a light truck to pick up supplies and to transport materials to and from work sites while assisting on project work.
Cleans and services chemical toilets, restrooms, and other campground or visitor facilities.

Age Requirement: You must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
You must be at least 18 years of age or older to operate government vehicles.

This position will be filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority. Eligibility is limited to applicants who reside within the defined local commuting area at the time of application. For this announcement, the local commuting area is the area from which individuals can reasonably commute to the duty station under normal conditions. The defined vicinity for this position is: if you reside in the defined local commuting area of Yellowstone National Park. This is defined as having a permanent and exclusive residence within the counties of:

Montana: Gallatin, Park.
Wyoming: Park, Sublette, Teton.
Idaho: Fremont

Physical Demands: Works from ladders, scaffolds and platforms and where surfaces to be coated, or the parts of systems worked on are hard to reach that require incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds.

Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside where dirt, spray, and fumes are present. Also required to work in inclement weather and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.
