This announcement is open to applicants who are enrolled or accepted for enrollment at least part-time in school or a qualifying career or technical educational program (e.g., Registered Apprenticeships, Job Corps, Climate Corps, AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other similar programs).
Pathways Internship positions provide for development and training. Assignments become more responsible as incumbent increases knowledge and skills through work experience and academic training. At the full-performance level, you will be expected to:
Applies and strengthens a general understanding of business operations, income tax, and bankruptcy laws and procedures.
Develops and maintains a working knowledge of the administrative systems and processes in use within the field office so they may perform basic functions when higher-level staff are unavailable to do so.
Perform a variety of specific routine financial management tasks which affects the accuracy, completeness, and reliability of bankruptcy filing information that is used in USTP reporting of financial results.
Reviews fee applications for accounting and financial services to help determine their reasonableness in relation to the services provided.
Performs a variety of analytical, technical, and administrative tasks as assigned.
You must successfully pass a security/background investigation and drug screening.
You may be required to complete a one-year trial/probationary period. See "Additional" section for specific details.

Interns must complete a minimum of 480 internship hours (320 hours if they receive a waiver) to be eligible for conversion to the competitive service.

Qualifications
In addition to the requirements above, you must also meet the specific qualifications requirements for this announcement and the occupational series and grade of this position as described in the Qualifications section below. To qualify for the position of Financial Management Specialist, at GS-0501-7, you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND [Insert experience, if applicable]
Basic Qualifications:
Must be at least 16 years of age.
Individual has been accepted for enrollment or be enrolled seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) on a full-or half-time basis (as determined by the educational institution) and may include qualifying career and technical education programs (Registered Apprenticeships, Job Corps, Climate Corps, AmeriCorps, Peace Corps, and other similar programs).
Must be in good academic standing as defined by their academic institution. These standards will be in effect for the duration of the internship.
Must maintain enrollment and continue education throughout the duration of employment under the Pathways Program.
I have one year of experience (equivalent to at least the GS-05 level or pay band in the Federal service) that includes performing the following duties: 1) Assisting in performing a variety of financial related functions and administrative work in connection with financial and accounting systems within an office; 2) Developing financial reports to submit to management; 3) Utilizing financial system to input information.
Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You MUST meet all qualification requirements by the 08/04/2026 of this announcement.

Education
