This position is being filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority and is open to U.S. citizens and nationals who meet all eligibility requirements, including permanent and exclusive residency within the defined vicinity of the field unit as described in this announcement. Applies premixed paints or stains to masonry, gypsum board, or wood surfaces using brushes or rollers.
Performs plumbing tasks such as replacing hose bibs, valves, unions and elbows, fixtures, toilets, flush valves, faucets, and various types of pipe and copper lines.
Patches and repairs roofs consisting of built-up tar and paper, metal, as well as foam roofs and asphalt shingles.
Performs electrical tasks involving making repairs that can be accomplished by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, and insulating defective wiring and fixtures.
Performs masonry work of limited difficulty involving the maintenance, repair, construction, and/or stabilization of historic sites built of stone, mortar, or adobe, and/or contemporary buildings, features, or structures.
Works in a setting where the water meets acceptable standards without any treatment. Monitors pumping equipment; regulates the amount of water coming in from one or more sources; read meters, gauges and charts and records readings and prepares reports for the supervisor or a higher graded worker; and performs routine maintenance. Required to obtain New Mexico Water Plant Certification within 1 year from entry-on-duty.
Performs custodial duties of cleaning buildings, offices, and comfort stations, empties trash, and cleans and waxes a variety of floors.
AREA INFORMATION:
Pecos National Historical Park is located 2 miles south of the village of Pecos, New Mexico on State Highway 63, four miles north of interstate 25. Pecos NHP is 25 miles east of Santa Fe and 44 miles to the west of Las Vegas, New Mexico. The multi-cultural resource of the park are enclosed in a predominately pinon/juniper woodland plant community with elevation from 6900 to 7400 feet . Precipitation averages 7 to 10 inches per year. Snowfall averages 12 to 16 inches in the winter. Average maximum winter temperature is 40 degrees. Average maximum summer temperature is 80 degrees. Elementary and secondary schools as well as banking facilities are available in Pecos. Las Vegas and Santa Fe provide all modern amenities and collegiate opportunities while Santa Fe provides all the cultural features of a major metropolitan area. Ability To Do the Work of the Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT): Experience must be demonstrated in at least two of the following trades: Carpentry (constructs, installs, repairs and replace items such as doors, shelves, etc.); Painting (preparing surfaces, determine painting materials to be used and method of application, and painting a variety of surfaces); Plumbing (replace various valves, unions, elbows, fixtures, toilets, faucets and various types of pipe and copper lines, cut and thread pipes, winterize water systems, etc.); Roofing (repairs and patching, tar and paper, metal foam roofs and asphalt shingles); Electrical (repairs including removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, and insulating defective wiring and fixtures; Masonry (maintenance, measures, determines amount of concrete, sets forms, pours and finishes concrete to blueprint standards and project specifications); Water Plant Operator (monitoring pumping equipment, regulating water, reading meters gauges and charts, recording readings and preparing reports).
