This position is being filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority and is open to U.S. citizens and nationals who meet all eligibility requirements, including permanent and exclusive residency within the defined vicinity of the field unit as described in this announcement. Under this authority, veterans' preference and traditional rating and ranking procedures do not apply. Open to ICTAP/CTAP eligible applicants.
The typical seasonal entry-on-duty period is April - October, but can be variable during these months due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty: April 2026 with a NTE October 2026 Can be extended longer.
The primary function of Maintenance Worker is to collect and dispose of trash from roadsides, remove limbs and other obstructions from roadsides and grounds, and clean restrooms and other facilities along the Medgar and Myrlie Evers Home. Maintenance Workers also operate small equipment such as leaf blowers and string trimmers. Maintenance Workers also perform minor maintenance duties on all facilities and assist higher-level tradesmen on more complex tasks. Maintenance Workers most often work alone and possess all necessary authority and autonomy to execute normal duties. Emergency call-outs can occur 24/7.
