Duties

Help

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Responsible for reviewing and analyzing budget planning estimates submitted by assigned components for technical accuracy and adequacy of supporting narrative justification, and conformance with DOJ budgetary policy and guidelines.
  • Coordinates work with senior level analysts and component office staff on analysis of finance orders in relation to forecasting expenses and provides narrative explanation of the causes of variances between actual and budget objectives.
  • Evaluates incoming accounting reports to interpret results of operations, to track financial trends and events, and to resolve fiduciary and/or financial management problems.
  • Maintains control of resources, funds allocation, fund control, inter-and intra-agency reimbursable agreements and financial reports in a fiscally responsible manner.
  • Reconciles a variety of automated accounting data to identify financial data discrepancies and corrective actions required.

Qualifications

In order to qualify for the Financial Specialist position, you must meet the following time in grade requirements and minimum qualifications:

FOR THE GS-12 LEVEL: Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service performing ALL the following:

  1. Providing guidance and assistance in projecting, planning, allocating, and executing financial resources;
  2. Assisting with the analysis of financial information to confirm proper execution of funds in accordance with applicable rules and regulations;
  3. Assisting in the monitoring of financial systems to ensure funds are properly allocated and obligated as apportioned in support of management objectives; AND
  4. Assisting with the coordination of internal control processes and financial audit activities.

FOR THE GS-13 LEVEL: Specialized Experience: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service performing the following:
  1. Providing guidance and assistance in projecting, planning, allocating, and executing financial resources;
  2. Researching and analyzing financial information to confirm proper execution of funds in accordance with applicable rules and regulations;
  3. Monitoring financial systems to ensure funds are properly allocated and obligated as apportioned in support of management objectives;
  4. Coordinating internal control processes and financial audit activities;
  5. Aiding in developing financial policy directives, necessary to effect the improvement of organizational resources management operations; AND
  6. Assisting in the development and formulation of financial documentation for submission to headquarters.

In order to be considered for this position, you must complete all required steps in the process. In addition to the application and application questionnaire, this position requires an online assessment. The online assessment measures critical general competencies required to perform the job. You must meet all qualifications, including meeting or exceeding the cut score on the required assessments.

Your USAHIRE assessment results will be kept on record for one year and used toward future positions for which you might apply that require the same assessments.

The assessment includes a cut score based on the minimum level of required proficiency in these critical general competencies. You must meet or exceed the cut score to be considered. You will not be considered for the position if you score below the cut score or fail to complete the assessment.

The Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) seeks highly qualified individuals to join our team of expert professionals in becoming a part of our challenging and rewarding Agency. The primary mission of the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) is to adjudicate immigration cases by fairly, expeditiously, and uniformly interpreting and administering the Nation's immigration laws. Under delegated authority from the Attorney General, EOIR conducts immigration court proceedings, appellate reviews, and administrative hearings. EOIR consists of three adjudicatory components: The Office of the Chief Immigration Judge, which is responsible for managing the Immigration Courts where Immigration Judges adjudicate individual cases; the Board of Immigration Appeals, which primarily conducts appellate reviews of these Immigration Judge decisions; and the Office of the Chief Administrative Hearing Officer, which adjudicates immigration-related employment cases.
