This position is being filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority and is open to U.S. citizens and nationals who meet all eligibility requirements, including permanent and exclusive residency within the defined vicinity of the field unit as described in this announcement. Under this authority, veterans' preference and traditional rating and ranking procedures do not apply.
Provides interpretive talks following established outlines, using broad subject-matter knowledge to explain the site's natural, historical, or scientific significance, including key events, personalities, and context.
Delivers visitor talks incorporating audio-visual aids such as maps, slides, and demonstrations to enhance understanding and encourage preservation of park resources.
Responds to a wide variety of visitor questions requiring detailed explanation of site features, historical background, scientific development, and related interpretive themes.
Leads and guides large visitor groups along fixed routes or within facilities, maintaining group safety, schedule adherence, crowd control, and interpretive continuity.
Provides visitor services including directions, safety information, first aid assistance, and general information on park facilities, regulations, and surrounding recreational opportunities.
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.

You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-04 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: oral presentation of historical, scientific, or program information to groups; or developing and/or revising technical, historical, or scientific information for oral presentation to groups. You must include hours per week worked.
-OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses related to the occupation such as American history, science, and public speaking. You must include transcripts.
