This position is being filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority and is open to U.S. citizens and nationals who meet all eligibility requirements, including permanent and exclusive residency within the defined vicinity of the field unit as described in this announcement. Under this authority, veterans' preference and traditional rating and ranking procedures do not apply.
Operates heavy power equipment (e.g., lawn mowers, chainsaws, brush cutters, chippers, snow blowers) and hand/light power tools to maintain buildings, grounds, roads, and trails.
Loads and unloads materials; moves furniture; installs signs; paints tables and signs; maintains lawns and vegetation; collects litter; repairs fire pits.
Performs manual labor including digging, grading, breaking pavement, and mixing/pouring concrete, asphalt, and similar materials.
Moves heavy loads using wheelbarrows and hand trucks; cuts and clears trees and vegetation; stacks logs, lumber, and materials.
Performs janitorial duties for buildings and grounds as needed.
This is a temporary seasonal appointment not to exceed 1,560 hours under the Office of Personnel management (OPM) approved exception.

You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.
Able to lift over 50 pounds, and in some cases, carrying 80 to 100 pounds.

This position will be filled under the Field Unit Local Hiring Authority. Eligibility is limited to applicants who reside within the defined local commuting area at the time of application. For this announcement, the local commuting area is the area from which individuals can reasonably commute to the duty station under normal conditions.
The defined duty station vicinity for this position is within a 60-mile radius of Paterson Great Falls National Historical Park in Paterson, New Jersey.
