Duties

Help

The Antitrust Division is seeking to fill Supervisory Paralegal Specialist positions in our offices in Washington, DC. Within the Division, Supervisory Paralegal Specialists perform legal duties in support of attorneys engaged in antitrust cases and matters.

As a Supervisory Paralegal Specialist, you will:

  • Analyze factual and legal questions to assist attorneys in preparing for ligation.
  • Direct and/or perform a variety of legal assistance and technical work requiring a specialized knowledge of process, procedure, and practices to support legal activities.
  • Document review platforms.
  • Perform supervisory duties including interviewing applicants, resolving employee complaints, invoking minor disciplinary measures, and identifying training needs.
  • Provide advice on the most effective and efficient ways to prepare, present, and maintain a variety of administrative legal documents.

Please note: Selections may be made from the Financial Services, Fintech, and Banking Section (FFB) or Transportation, Energy, and Agriculture Section (TEA).

  • This is a supervisory appointment in the competitive service, subject to a one-year supervisory probationary period in accordance with 5 CFR 315.904.
  • The Antitrust Division participates in the E-Verify program.
  • Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required.

Qualifications

You may qualify for this position with specialized experience.

To qualify for this position at the GS-12 level, your resume must reflect at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level. Specialized experience is experience that has provided you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position as described above, and that is typically in or related to this position being filled.

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
GS-12 level: One year of specialized experience, equivalent to the GS-11 performing ALL of the following:

  • Leading teams;
  • Expertise in the use of eDiscovery document review software such as Relativity, Concordance, or Everlaw; and
  • Preparing, processing, and finalizing legal documents upon arrival for filing in court, which include responsive pleadings, stipulations, motions to dismiss, motions for summary judgement, supporting memoranda of law, statements of material facts and discovery responses.
IMPORTANT: A full year of work is 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited based on time spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no positive education requirement for the GS-12 grade level.
