Help
  • Provides technical support to customers who need advice, assistance and training in applying hardware and software system.
  • Assists Senior IT Specialist with providing technical recommendation regarding hardware and software compatibility, availability and adaptation to meet specialized customer demands.
  • Assists Senior IT Specialist with conducting a variety of functions such as prioritizing workload of helpdesk technicians, passing along instructions and policy guidance, and preparing work assignments to meet customer demands on a day-to-day basis.

Qualifications

The position of Information Technology Specialist (Customer Support) falls under the 2210 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-9, you must meet all requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 08/09/2024.

Basic Requirements:

Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

GS-9 (or equivalent): Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree
OR
Experience: Must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.

GS-5 through GS-15 (or equivalent): For all positions individuals must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below. The employing agency is responsible for identifying the specific level of proficiency required for each competency at each grade level based on the requirements of the position being filled.

1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

Minimum Qualifications:
Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. The specialized experience must demonstrate one year of full-time work experience or the equivalent if part-time (for example, an employee working 20 hours per week for a 12-month period should be credited with 6 months of experience.) Experience may have been obtained in either the federal service or its equivalent with state or local government, the private sector, or nongovernmental organizations.

GS-09: You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07, in the Federal service, which includes: supporting customers with a variety of hardware and software functions and providing technical support to include configuration, installation, testing, integration and troubleshooting of various operating systems and conducting a variety of helpdesk functions.
OR

Have two (2) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree.
OR
Have a combination of specialized experience and higher graduate level education as described when combined, equal 100% of the total requirement.

FOREIGN EDUCATION
