CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT FOR THIS VACANCY: This is a career position in the SES. Unless the selectee is already a member of the SES with career status or has successfully completed an SES Candidate Development Program certified by OPM, executive qualifications must be approved by OPM before the appointment can be effected. If you are selected, you will be responsible for working with a NNSA Executive Consultant to finalize your ECQ narrative for OPM submission.
HOMELAND SECURITY PRESIDENTIAL DIRECTIVE (HSPD-12): A selectee's appointment is contingent upon compliance with Homeland Security Presidential Directive (HSPD-12) governing personal identity. May be required to pass a pre-employment drug test, random testing after appointment.
You must meet the Basic Education Requirement listed below in order to qualify for this series.
Degree: Engineering. The program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology; or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics.

Combination of education and experience: College-level education, training, and/or technical experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering as demonstrated by the alternate methods to meeting the engineering educational requirement (e.g., holding current professional engineering registration, having passed the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) examination, or having completed specified academic courses or a related degree). Applicants who do not demonstrate sufficient possession of the Executive Core Qualifications (ECQs) AND demonstrated specialized experience, training, and/or education in support of the Mandatory Technical Qualifications (MTQs) by uploading the narratives, will be determined ineligible for further consideration. The narrative must demonstrate the necessary level of skills, specialized knowledge, and technical competence that would indicate success at this level and must include clear and concise examples that emphasize the applicant's level of responsibilities, scope, and complexity. Based on the Panel's evaluation, applicants who were determined best qualified will be referred to the hiring manager for further consideration. Once a candidate has been identified for selection, the Executive Resources Board will make final approval, and in competitive cases, the Office of Personnel Management (OPM), Qualifications Review Board (QRB), will certify qualifications. This process can take up to 90 working days.
