Duties

Help
  • Conducts research using genomics, and molecular approaches to characterize pathways.
  • Independently conducts difficult, highly specialized research in detection and identification of bacterial toxins particularly enterotoxins produced by Staphylococcus aureus and Bacillus cereus.
  • Analyzes a combination of molecular and biological data sets of different sizes and resolutions through scientifically accepted algorithm.
  • Implements new, state of the art, highly sensitive targeted RNA sequencing analysis for enterotoxins in foods and dietary supplements.
  • Determines areas for investigation of targeted RNA sequencing methods thus ensuring their reliability, efficiency, and automation.

Qualifications

The position of Research Biologist (Bioinformatics) falls under the 0401 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade GS-14, you must meet all requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 06/25/2024.

Basic Requirements

A. Degree: biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.

OR

B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

Specialized Experience
. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled.GS-14:

Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent in complexity to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service:

  • Analyzing data related to bacterial toxins in foods or dietary supplements; and
  • Developing molecular techniques for foods or dietary supplements (e.g., genome sequencing, PCR, qPCR).
