Duties

Help
  • Serves as the primary/principal advisor to the Commissioner, Chief Scientist, Deputy Commissioners, and other key senior officials on the overall direction and approach to minority health and health equity issues and developments.
  • Directs the activities of the Office of Minority Health working across all sectors of the Department of Health and Human Services, FDA, external public health, scientific and medical communities.
  • Implements legislative mandates, and policy and planning issues across major FDA components, and those which impact underserved populations and major demographic subgroups and minority health and health disparity activities.

Qualifications

The position of Associate Commissioner for Minority Health falls under the 0601 occupational series. To qualify for this position at grade AD-00, you must meet the following TWO requirements by 11:59 pm EST on 04/23/2024.

1. Basic Education Requirements for 601 series:


Must have a Bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position. This degree is from an educational program from an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.

NOTE: Applicants must submit all relevant transcripts that demonstrate you possess the required education to meet the Basic Qualifications.

2. Title 21 CURES - Minimum Education/Experience Requirement for Associate Commissioner for Minority Health, Band F level:

If you have a Bachelor's degree in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position, you must also have 7 years of relevant experience in intramural or extramural research specific to minority health and health equity; providing leadership and advice in the implementation and analysis of policies and scientific processes; dealing with regulation of FDA regulated products; developing creative solutions to complex problems; and fostering cooperative working relationships among stakeholders.

If you have a Master's degree in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position, you must also have 6 years of relevant experience in intramural or extramural research specific to minority health and health equity; providing leadership and advice in the implementation and analysis of policies and scientific processes; dealing with regulation of FDA regulated products; developing creative solutions to complex problems; and fostering cooperative working relationships among stakeholders.

If you have a Doctorate and/or J.D. degree in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position, you must also have 4 years of relevant experience in intramural or extramural research specific to minority health and health equity; providing leadership and advice in the implementation and analysis of policies and scientific processes; dealing with regulation of FDA regulated products; developing creative solutions to complex problems; and fostering cooperative working relationships among stakeholders.

If you have a MD/DO/DDS/DPM/DVM degree in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of the position, you must also have 4 years of relevant experience in intramural or extramural research specific to minority health and health equity; providing leadership and advice in the implementation and analysis of policies and scientific processes; dealing with regulation of FDA regulated products; developing creative solutions to complex problems; and fostering cooperative working relationships among stakeholders.

FOREIGN EDUCATION
