Help

The position leads efforts of three inventory and monitoring networks, and the subject matter experts associated with those programs. The position works with partners including the national inventory and monitoring program, other federal agencies, non-governmental organizations, and universities in an effort to better understand and adaptively manage ecological, and biophysical resources in context to park management needs. Conducts cross program coordination and science communication. The incumbent is responsible for inventory and monitoring, natural resource program management and operational responsibilities assigned by the Natural Resources Associate Regional Director and coordinating with Inventory and Monitoring Networks, the national Inventory and Monitoring Division, universities, non-governmental agencies, Superintendents, and Park Managers, for integrated natural resource support of the Region and its parks. The incumbent's major duties include development of status and trend reports, technical analysis of study results and research, educational and technical assistance programs based on interdisciplinary, multi-scale, systems-oriented approaches to engage and benefit parks and park management decisions.

The incumbent must report to work in one of the offices and locations listed below. The position is Telework Eligible, but this position is not considered a REMOTE duty station, working from home on a full-time basis. The duty stations for these positions are Negotiable After Selection. The incumbent may negotiate their duty station from any the following locations:
Omaha, NE
Ashland, WI
Minneapolis, MN
Republic, MO
Rapid City, SD

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 for each federal position listed as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of qualifying experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-14 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: I possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience is: planning, development, and coordination of a complex program of natural resource management and research in disciplines such as ecology, conservation biology, wildlife biology, geology, hydrology, marine ecology, integrated pest management, pesticides management, environmental restoration, resource monitoring, data management, and GIS. Development and maintaining external partnerships relative to natural resource management and/or science geared to protection of natural resources on park lands and/or other Federal lands or Trust Resources. Management of a Regional or National Resource Management support program. You must include hours per week worked.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level of this announcement.

Physical Demands: The position may require strenuous physical activity including periods of standing, walking, climbing, and lifting and carrying heavy objects. Some activities will occur in physically dangerous areas or settings. Management of the program, report writing, and document review and approval work is sedentary, which entails the ability to concentrate and write for long periods of time.

Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily indoors. Occasionally, work may be performed outdoors in all types of weather. Outdoor assignments may be performed in potentially hazardous areas.

The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
