The incumbent will serve as either the Lees Ferry District Ranger or Halls Crossing/Hite District Ranger.
Manages a complex protection operation involving visitor services, law enforcement, criminal investigations, emergency medical services, search and rescue operations, structural and wildland fire operations, aviation operations, wilderness program and resource monitoring, and protection activities.
Provides policy guidance and direction on a variety of visitor and resource protection program activities for the assigned district. Deals directly with a diverse group of agencies and organizations including representative of local, State, Federal, and tribal governments. Incumbent performs full supervisory responsibilities (including those related to Equal Opportunity and Employee Relations) for seasonal, temporary, and permanent staff as well as volunteers and other personnel, both directly and indirectly.
Physical Demands: Work involving patrol duties, responding to emergency incidents, or performing resource management duties is performed outdoors in environments ranging from desert to spruce-fir coniferous forest. Temperatures vary from summer highs of over 120 degrees to winter lows of minus 20 degrees. Hazardous terrain including rugged, unstable footing, exposure to extreme heights, loose rock, and swift river currents and rapids, is frequently encountered. The duties performed are often physically and emotionally stressful and may extend into hours well beyond the scheduled duty day. Operations may sometimes be performed at night adding darkness to the complexity of the environment.
Work Environment: The work environment is combination of indoor and outdoor activity and settings. Climate is typical high desert where temperatures may exceed 100 degrees in the summer and extended to subfreezing temperatures in the winter. Field trips and out of area travel via automobile and commercial airlines is frequent. The park is subject to many social, economic, and operational pressures, of which many are not compatible with NPS stewardship obligations.
Lees Ferry District Area Information: Lees Ferry is located 45 miles from Page, Arizona and 130 miles from Flagstaff, Arizona, the nearest larger community. Lees Ferry looks out on beautiful Colorado River which offers boating, associated water sports recreation and fishing. The surrounding land of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area offers beautiful red rock country for hiking and backcountry recreational activity. Lees Ferry is centrally located to many other National Parks, such as the Grand Canyon, Zion, Arches, and Canyonlands. Page offers normal community amenities such as shopping, museums, medical and dental facilities, schools K-12, and college courses through Coconino Community College. The area enjoys typical high desert climate with temperatures ranging from 100 degrees in summer to mid-teens in winter with low humidity and sunshine most days of the year. This is a shared duty station with Grand Canyon National Park.
Halls Crossing/Hite District Area Information: Halls Crossing is 90 miles from Blanding, Utah which is a gateway community to Bears Ears, Natural Bridges, and Hovenweep National Monuments as well as Canyonlands and Arches National Parks. Blanding offers normal community amenities such as shopping, museums, medical and dental facilities, schools K-12, and college courses through Utah State University. Ferry service from Halls Crossing to Bullfrog is offered by the State of Utah. The surrounding land of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area offers beautiful red rock country for hiking and backcountry recreational activity. The area enjoys typical high desert climate with temperatures ranging from 100 degrees in summer to mid-teens in winter with low humidity and sunshine most days of the year.

Salary Range: A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade for which selected. The display of a salary range on this vacancy shall not be construed as granting an entitlement to a higher rate of pay.

A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another.
