Summary

Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work typically be in a non-pay status for one pay period (two weeks) per year unless funding dictates otherwise.

Help

Serves as the primary GPS/GNSS technical support person for regional parks and programs.
Provides GIS subject matter expertise in the use of ESRI GIS applications and workflows
Conducts data management activities in support of park, regional, and national needs and requirements.
Provides data management technical support and expertise to regional parks and programs.
Design and/or provide formal technical training as needed.

Physical Demands: The work is often sedentary but field work occasionally requires some physical exertion such as long periods of standing, walking over rough, muddy, uneven, swampy or mountainous terrain; recurring periods of bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching or similar activities; and recurring lifting of moderately heavy items weighing up to 50 pounds. Computer work is sedentary, which entails the ability to concentrate and use computers for long periods of time.

Working Conditions: Work is primarily performed indoors in a climate controlled office environment. Outdoor work may occur in hot, cold, humid, or dry weather conditions. Outdoor work may also be required during periods of rain, snow, sleet, fog or other adverse weather conditions.

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: I have at least one (1) year of specialized work experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal Service. Examples of specialized experience for this position include, but are not limited to:(1) Proficiency with mapping-grade Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) equipment and workflows including project planning and field work to generate new spatial data or verify previously mapped information is required. Experience with Trimble survey-grade GNSS equipment and workflows including robotic total stations to collect 3-D natural and cultural resource data is desired.(2) Proficiency with the ESRI GIS Suite of applications especially ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online and related applications (e.g. ArcGI Online core functionality, StoryMaps, Field Maps, and Survey123) is required.(3) Proficiency in geospatial data management is required. This includes, but is not limited to geospatial data management with tools in the ESRI ecosystem; design and maintain enterprise and file geodatabases; working understanding of geospatial reference frames; knowledge of National Park Service geospatial data management standards (e.g. feature class naming conventions, standard data schemas, FGDC-authored Content Standard for Digital Geospatial Metadata (CSDGM).(4) Provides technical support on the above items is the form of oral communication (one-on-one and formal training) and written communication (email notices, Microsoft Teams, and the regional Geospatial Resources SharePoint.(5) Experience with geospatial analysis and modeling using a variety of data types (e.g. natural and cultural resources; utility features; and other physical assets such as buildings, signs, roads, trails, and other infrastructure) is desired.(6) Experience with remote sensing applications such as ERDAS Imagine and ENVI is desired. (7) Working knowledge of Python and its application in the ESRI ecosystem is desired. You must include hours per week worked.

EDUCATION: Successful I successfully completed 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree. Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts as proof of any claimed education.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take . Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.

Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
