These positions are duty stationed in Cornish, New Hampshire, at Saint-Gaudens National Historical Park (SAGA) and Woodstock, Vermont, at Marsh-Billings-Rockefeller National Park (MABI). In general, the incumbents will report to work in Cornish or Woodstock, but travel between the parks is expected. Positions are career-seasonal and expected to be in non-pay status January-February.
The incumbents serve as a Museum Technician at respective park and is cross trained for the other park in conformity of collaboration. According to established NPS museum collection guidance, the incumbents perform routine tasks in support of museum collection access/use, documentation, management, and preservation (accuracy and timeliness of work affects further museum functions). Decisions regarding what needs to be done involve various choices requiring the incumbent to recognize the existence of and differences among a few easily recognizable situations. Both museum collections include archival, cultural, and natural, with emphasis on historic furnishings and fine art.
Under the direction of the Supervisory Museum Curator at MABI and Museum Curator at SAGA, routine tasks include, but are not limited to database management (ICMS or its successor), environmental monitoring, exhibit maintenance, exhibit space seasonal closing/opening, integrated pest management, museum housekeeping, object handling, record keeping (accessioning, cataloging, deaccessioning, loans, etc.), reference services (access, images, information, etc.), rehousing/stabilization, reports changes in agents of deterioration, tracks preservation supplies stock, and assists with annual reporting, authentication/provenance research, development routine operations (SOPs, etc.), intern/volunteer direction/training, and research/review of cultural resource baseline documentation.
Area Information:
The positions are located in Cornish, New Hampshire, which is a rural area and Woodstock, Vermont, which is a picturesque New England village including a historic downtown. The nearest community to Cornish is Windsor, Vermont, which is three miles away. Windsor has a population of approximately 3,500 and amenities such as a hospital, churches, restaurants, stores, transportation, etc. Larger nearby communities include Lebanon, NH (11 miles north) and Claremont, NH (10 miles south). Lebanon and Claremont both have all standard services and amenities. Woodstock, Vermont, is located approximately 17 miles northwest from Cornish and nearby communities also include Lebanon, NH (19 miles east) and White River Junction, VT (14 miles east). Hanover, NH, home of Dartmouth College, is a college town with a variety of amenities. Temperatures in the area range from -10 F to +40 F in the winter and +50 F to +95 F in the summer. Precipitation is approximately 35 inches annually.
