Summary

Evaluates records, archival, and manuscript collections in adherence with federal records management guidelines. Evaluates records against scope of collection statement and archival appraisal criteria. Recommends specific non-official records for inclusion in museum collection.
Researches collection provenance, original order, series components, dates, document formats, processes, creators, authenticity, topical content data, legal status, and legal validity of access restrictions and ownership history.
Conducts baseline condition survey of archival collections and prioritizes collections for treatment or reformatting. Proposes to supervisor recommendations for treatment or reformatting and provides proposed treatment or reformatting inspection criteria.
Rehouses the park archival and manuscript collections, as needed. Sets up archival storage, processing, work and reference services areas, reading room spaces with good environments, security, fire protection, and supervision.
Monitors, controls, and maintains the environment for collections, including light, temperature, relative humidity, and air quality, and oversees the integrated pest management program.
In consultation with the records manager, conducts records surveys in all park structures, and writes collection-level survey descriptions.
Enters the collection into the NPS automated collections management system. Researches and reviews archival and manuscript collection restrictions, e.g., copyright.
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.

Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-12/30/2022-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

Basic Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree in archival science or bachelor's degree with a major that includes 18 semester hours in archival science, history and/or in political science or government, and 12 semester hours in one or any combination of the following: archival science, history, American civilization, economics, political science, public administration, or government. Evaluation of Experience:
Professional experience must have been in archival science, or in a directly related field of work such as history that involved the collection, appraisal, analysis, or synthesis of information having historical or archival values. The following are illustrative of kinds of experience that may be accepted as meeting the professional experience requirements: (1) experience as an archivist in Federal, state, religious institution, business, or other archives, or in manuscript depositories, and (2) experience of an archival nature that involved research in archival science, or in a directly related field such as history, government, economics, political science, international relations, or international law.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: :I have one year of specialized experience at the next lower level, GS-09 which includes; Experience at this level must include all of the following involving archives program management and project management of a more complex nature, working independently: i. Experience in long term planning and management of archival collections, at a park, regional repository, or similar (e.g. museum, museum facility); (ii) Museum database management including ICMS/Re:Discovery or similar (e.g. Past Perfect, Arctos, etc.); Experience in budget planning and management, and (iv) personnel management. This experience must demonstrate a broad knowledge of and experience with applying the theories, principles, practices, and techniques of archival collection management AND Experience supervising employees, including hiring, assigning/sequencing work, reviewing work, completing performance appraisals

I have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
OR
I have equivalent combinations of experience and education as described above that meets 100% of the requirements for this position.

Physical Demands: The work requires frequent retrieval of records and books from storage areas with some bending and lifting of cartons of papers (weighing up to 50 pounds). Operation of standard office equipment is required and some operation of motor vehicles. Work requires travel to various locations for the purpose of acquisitions and collection of materials to other NPS and non-NPS sites with archival and manuscript collections, and to training and professional meetings. Documentary research and report writing work is sedentary, which entails the ability to concentrate and write for long periods of time.
Working Conditions: Most of the work is performed in the archives (and library) of park or central office.However, the position also requires performing work in the offices of other research bureaus, museums, national parks, public program offices, administrative offices, and other libraries and archives.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
