Duties

Help

Budget work comprises the majority of the duties for this position. The incumbent coordinates the Division of Interpretation budget and finance functions; prepares program documents and records expenditures from purchase documents. Duties also include providing monthly statements of commitments, obligations and status of funds, with recommendations to supervisor; recommending program adjustments to resolve discrepancies. The incumbent will be responsible for presenting programs with recommendations to program managers and other park or regional staff and performing expenditure transfers in reimbursable and clearing accounts.

Works closely with the Division of Administration budget analyst and assists with overall park budget.

This position is responsible for park publications, exhibits, and waysides layout and design following nationally established guidelines and industry standards. Develops products that integrate text, computer graphics, conventional art, photographs, or other media to convey messages visually. The incumbent uses Adobe software such as In Design, Photoshop and Illustrator to design layout and coordinate publishing for the park's newspaper, site bulletins, posters, flyers, and other similar material.

Coordinate's procurement and account information with clerical and administrative staff throughout the park.

Other clerical duties include: Serves as division property inventory coordinator. Coordinates timely and accurate completion of property inventories, reports of survey, etc.; serves as payroll coordinator for the division, inputting payroll records (T&A) into database; serves as division receptionist; takes, records, and distributes mail, telephone, radio and e-mail messages; occasionally collects entrance fees at the visitor center desk during the winter season; serves as park uniform coordinator.

  • Incidental Driving: You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.
  • Probationary Period: If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Government Housing: Housing is not available.

Qualifications

Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To receive credit for experience, your resume MUST clearly indicate the nature of the duties and responsibilities for each position, starting and ending dates of employment (month/year), and the resume must reflect full and/or part-time or total number of hours worked (i.e., work 40+ hours a week, rather than indicating full-time). If part-time, the hours must be annotated to be able to pro-rate the amount of qualified specialized experience.

SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position performs office automation duties, and the ability to type 40 words per minute is required. Candidates who do not meet this requirement by close of this announcement will receive no further consideration for this position.

To qualify for this position at the GS-06 grade level, you must possess all of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

EXPERIENCE: Possess at least one year of specialized experience at the GS-5 level in the federal government. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to this position. Specialized experience for this position includes performance of clerical and administrative duties such as organizing and managing administrative functions of an office to include drafting and proofreading correspondence; filing; gathering or extracting data/information from various sources; establishing and maintaining files; making appointments for others; categorize information for filing; search files, documents or other sources for information; recommend solutions to routine problems; process incoming forms, records, or other documents; make travel arrangements and prepare travel vouchers; verifying time and leave balances; maintain electronic data management systems and preparing purchase requests using an electronic acquisition program. You must include hours per week worked.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

There is no substitution of education for experience at the grade level(s) of this announcement.

Additional information
