Summary

Duties

Help

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Prepares and edits relevant materials, including press releases, fact sheets, speeches, and provide them to the public through print and broadcast media.
  • Handles multiple media inquiries simultaneously, prioritizing and responding to media inquiries. Works collaboratively with media representatives and subject matter experts.
  • Keeps the Executive Director well informed of significant developments and issues. Provides media relations advice to agency officials about newsworthy, sensitive, and controversial issues.
  • Writes, reviews, edits, and make recommendations concerning speeches, publications, and presentations to ensure they conform to policies and procedures and are consistent with communication practices.
  • Maintain editorial control of official CIGIE social media accounts. Recommend and determine the strategies of social media campaigns and initiatives. Develop and disseminates informational materials through various media platforms.
  • Attends regular meetings with other public relations representatives from various OIG offices.

  • This position's funding is dependent on Congress; however, you may be expected to report to work during government shutdowns and may not be paid during a furlough
  • New supervisors must successfully complete a 1-year probationary period
  • You will be required to complete an OGE 450, Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, within 30 days of starting your federal employment and annually thereafter as long as you occupy a position that requires financial disclosure reporting
  • Overtime may be required
  • This position is eligible for situational-only telework based on agency policy
  • You may be required to work weekends and federal holidays
  • Must possess and maintain a valid state issued driver's license to conduct official government business
  • Position is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment - persons convicted of misdemeanor crimes of domestic violence are prohibited from occupying this position.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience GS-15:You must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following duties:

  1. Developing and executing strategies to publicize information about an organization, its programs, initiatives, and policies to the general public or specific audiences;
  2. Writing and disseminating news releases and feature articles to print, web, and social media and selecting photographs to accompany releases;
  3. Developing new information materials including press releases, fact sheets, brochures, booklets, broadcast spots, etc., that increase communication with the agency's various external contacts; and
  4. Communicating organizational programs, activities and/or functions to general audiences.

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as "varies".

Background Investigation: To ensure the accomplishment of our mission, CIGIE requires every employee to be reliable and trustworthy. To meet those standards, all selected applicants must undergo and successfully pass a background investigation for suitability as a condition of placement into this position. This will include a credit check after a tentative job offer is given, a review of financial issues such as delinquency in the payment of debts, child support and/or tax obligations, as well as certain criminal offenses and illegal use or possession of drugs. Continued employment is contingent upon favorable adjudication of periodic reinvestigations.

Transfer Requirement for CSRS: To be eligible for secondary coverage, an employee must:- Transfer without a break in service exceeding 3 days directly from a primary position to a secondary position; AND - Be continuously employed in a secondary position since moving from a primary position; except a break in employment in secondary positions that begins with an involuntary separation (not for cause) and/or voluntary breaks in service that began prior to January 20, 1988.

Transfer Requirement for FERS: To be eligible for secondary coverage, an employee must:- Transfer without a break in service exceeding 3 days directly from a primary position to a secondary position; AND - Have completed 3 years of service in a primary position, including any such service during which no FERS deductions were withheld; AND - Be continuously employed in a secondary position since moving from a rigorous position; except a break in employment in secondary positions that begins with an involuntary separation (not for cause).

The Office of Personnel Management (OPM) must authorize employment offers made to current or former political appointees.
