Utility Systems Repairer Operators; operate, maintain, and monitor, a water treatment system. Inspect, activate, deactivate, maintain, and repair a potable water distribution system. Ensure water meets the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act and State Department of Public Health and Environment standards to include testing, adjusting and using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. Repair, and maintain all facets of a potable water treatment facility including repair work on plumbing fixtures, service lines, and valves.

This is a Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis.

The employee will work during annually recurring seasons of employment for the position and unit as described below. The season will last as least six (6) months but total less than twelve (12) months per calendar year. When operational needs and/or funds are not available, the employee will be placed in non-pay status.

The non-pay status season is expected to last from March to November. Employee may be placed in non-pay status November through February. It is expected that operational needs and funding will decrease non-pay time to 2-4 weeks per year but is not guaranteed. Placement in non-pay status will not be on a sporadic, occasional, or unplanned basis.

  • You will be required to submit to a drug test and receive a negative drug test result prior to appointment. In addition, this position is subject to random testing for illegal drug use.
  • You must possess and maintain a current Class B, Commercial Driver's License.
  • You must possess and maintain a current Colorado Grade C Water Treatment Operators License (or equivalent), and you must possess a Water Distribution Operator Grade 2 License. Please indicate the level of certification you currently possess in you resume.
  • You must possess or be able to obtain within 12 months of entry on duty a Backflow Prevention Tester License and a Colorado Waste Water Collections Operator Grade 1 License.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work..
  • If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 2 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

  1. Must demonstrate the ability to do the work of a Utility Systems Repairer-Operator without more than normal supervision. To qualify at for this position you must demonstrate the following trades: operate, maintain, and monitor, a water treatment system. Inspect, activate, deactivate, maintain, and repair a potable water distribution system. Ensure water meets the requirements of the Safe Drinking Water Act and State Department of Public Health and Environment standards to include testing, adjusting and using Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems. Repair, and maintain all facets of a potable water treatment facility including repair work on plumbing fixtures, service lines, and valves.(SCREEN OUT)
  2. This position requires possession of a current Colorado Grade C Water Treatment Operators License (or equivalent), and you must possess a Water Distribution Operator Grade 2 License. You must provide proof of this licensing in your resume.(SCREEN OUT).

A Relocation Incentive May Be Authorized for a Federal employee when the employee must move, as directed by the National Park Service (NPS) either through a management directed reassignment or selection for employment, to a different location at least 50 miles away from the one where his/her position of record held at time of selection is currently located, due to a need of the NPS. A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another.

Physical Demands: The incumbent will be required to do considerable walking, standing on concrete floors, and climbing stairways and ladders. Light to moderate physical effort is necessary to turn valves and controls, and to frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 40 pounds.

Working Conditions: Work is usually indoors and occasionally outside for short periods where the incumbent is subject to prevailing weather conditions. Incumbent is exposed to infections or diseases such as typhoid and dysentery while cleaning equipment or shoveling sludge, and the presence of hazardous gases such as methane, chlorine, hydrogen sulfide, and carbon monoxide.

Incumbent is also subject to electrical shock, loud noises, battery acids, and hydraulic fluids while working around motors and pumps. There is frequent exposure to shock, burns, and strains. Incumbent follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as face shields, gloves, hard -toe shoes, respirators, and protective clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear and may be worn or used for long periods of time.
