This is a Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee are guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment.
Designs various signs and plaques including roadway guide, safety signs, nameplates, trail signs, resource protection signs, award plaques, retirement plaques, and informational wayfinding signs using various computer programs.
- Fabricates signs and plaques using a variety of machines including large format printer, vinyl cutter, engraver, CNC machine, pneumatic sheet roller, and various shop tools.
- Installs signs using hand tools and machinery including shovels, picks, spud bar, post auger, skidsteer, and excavator.
- Plans and organizes long term and short term projects.
Area Information: Page, Arizona is located on the Arizona-Utah border, 135 miles north of Flagstaff, Arizona, the nearest larger community. Page looks out on beautiful Lake Powell which offers boating, associated water sports recreation and fishing. The surrounding land of the Glen Canyon National Recreation Area offers beautiful red rock country for hiking and backcountry recreational activity. Page is centrally located to many other National Parks, such as the Grand Canyon, Zion, Arches and Canyonlands to name a few. There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
Physical Demands: Will frequently be required to lift heavy material of 65 pounds or more. Is occasionally required to do strenuous work for long periods of time while inspecting, maintaining, and installing signs at various elevations and terrain. Will be required to sit or stand for long periods of time while performing vinyl, welding, engraving, routing, and computer operations. Position requires a considerable amount of standing, stooping, bending, climbing, and working in tiring or uncomfortable positions.
Working Conditions: Is required to work outside in all types of varying weather and terrain. Able to walk or use stock to traverse long distances (five to twenty miles) to inspect and maintain backcountry trail signs. Work will expose incumbent to noise, paint fumes, solvents, dust and other hazards relating to routing, engraving and printing operations. Will be exposed to loud noises that require hearing protection. Must be able to complete assignments while wearing properly fitted respirator (requires mandatory medical evaluation), safety glasses, hearing protection and other personal protective equipment.
