  • The selectee will serve as the Maintenance Supervisor for the Hubble Trading Post. The selectee will supervise workers performing a variety of maintenance assignments such as: approve time and attendance, approve leave, make hiring recommendations and complete personnel actions, counsel and evaluate the performance of subordinates.
  • Perform and oversee building and grounds maintenance and custodial operations: plan and assign work, provide technical direction and instruction, provide guidance to address adjustments or delays, oversee and inspect work.
  • Use various automated systems to enter data, work orders and other requests, review and approve time and attendance, and communicate information. Enter and track data by using the Facility Management Software System (FMSS) system, or similar maintenance management system.
  • Complete purchase and contract requests compliant with local and agency procedures and federal acquisition regulations.
  • Ensure that historic buildings and resources are maintained to National Historic Preservation Act standards (NHPA}, by facilitating compliance and collaboration with subject matter experts.
  • Prepare reports and draft written documents such as work orders, specifications, estimates, purchase requests, instructions.
  • Determine and recommend/obtain amounts and kinds of supplies, materials, equipment and labor required to accomplish necessary work.
  • Operate a wide variety of vehicles, trucks, tractors, utility vehicles and other equipment.
  • Perform a variety of grounds maintenance and custodial functions.
  • Ensure on the job safety and health practices and procedures are followed.
  • Ensure animals and livestock are taken care of properly.
  • Help develop and manage the farm plan.

  • Must meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.

  • You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties.
  • Driver's License: must submit (in state sealed envelope directly from the state authorities), at your own expense, all certified driving records from all states that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home occasionally. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
  • You will be required to complete a Confidential Financial Disclosure Report, OGE-450 on an annual basis.
  • You may be required to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
  • Occupancy of government quarters is required.
  • Highest previous rate authorized for pay setting purposes.

Physical Demands: Incumbent works on various structures utilizing ladders, scaffolds, and platforms and in cramped places. This requires standing, bending, stooping, keeling, climbing and working in tiring and cramped positions. Frequently lifts and carries up to 50 pounds. Occasionally strenuous physical effort is exerted in climbing and carrying hand tools and in the repair of powered equipment.

Working Conditions: Incumbent works indoors/outdoors primarily during daylight hours, however may work night hours during inclement weather or for emergency response. Temperatures range from 10 degrees F to over 90 degrees F. Summer conditions could include dirt, dust, heat, high winds, noise, wet environments and potential hazards in the form of lighting, poisonous plants, insects, and wild animals. Winter conditions include rain, snow, ice and windblown whiteout/blizzard. Duties are performed at elevations ranging up to 6,000+ feet. May be required to travel overnight and work weekend shifts. Outside work may involve hiking and climbing, that may be performed in all kinds of weather, some of which will be performed under the most adverse conditions. Incumbent is subjects to cuts, bruises, burns, strain, electrical shock, loud noises, battery acids, and hydraulic fluids while working around equipment. Incumbent follows prescribed safety practices and uses safety equipment such as safety glasses, face shield, gloves, hard-toe shoes, respirators (work required PPE), and protective clothing. Some of these safety items may be uncomfortable to wear and may be worn for used for extended long periods of time.
