Summary

This position is located in Saguaro National Park, in the Maintenance Division of Rincon Mountain District.

This is a Career/Career-Conditional Full-Time appointment.

Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will be paid if the selectee lives outside of the local commuting area and is otherwise eligible for reimbursement of relocation expenses in accordance with the Federal Travel Regulation.

Help

-Provide year round supervision and leadership of the diverse group of permanent, seasonal, and volunteer employees engaged in maintenance operations and project work including but not limited to buildings, utilities, grounds, and roads.
-Exercises the full range of supervisory duties including recruitment , selection, evaluation, counseling and disciplinary action.
-Engages in training required to acquire and maintain Federal Acquisition Certification Contracting Officer's Representative (FAC-COR) certification to fulfill duties as Contracting Officers Representative and knowledge of contract administration.
-Carpentry, plumbing, masonry, mechanical, painting and engineering design skills are required to effectively evaluate facilities through formal comprehensive condition assessments and to determine proper treatments for project development.

  • You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. You will be required to submit a Motor Vehicle Operator's License and Driving Record. You must also submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that disclose all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you.
  • You may be required to complete training and operate a four-wheel drive vehicle.
  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
  • If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • You may be required to travel overnight away from home. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
  • Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors:

  2. Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc
  3. Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic)
  4. Use of measuring instruments
  5. Ability to interpret instructions, specification, etc. (includes blueprinting reading)
  6. Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment
  7. Knowledge of materials

Physical Demands: The work will require hiking or riding a pack animal up to 12 miles into remote wilderness and be required to spend multiple nights at these locations in the cabin or campground. Elevation change to access these locations is roughly 5000 feet.

Working Conditions: The work of the position requires indoor office work as well as outdoor field work, in a variety of temperatures and weather conditions that can range from a low of 25F to a high of 120F. You will be required to access the remote Manning Ranger cabin, vault toilets and campgrounds and is responsible for condition assessments, operations and maintenance, project work and corrective maintenance of the facilities
