Summary

Position serves as a Network Administrator in the Division of Information Resource Management, Network Operations Section, which is the installation focal point for voice and data communications providing BLM-wide network

Duties

Help

Duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Serve as a technical authority for site level cabling, devices, switches, network connectivity, and
    physical connectivity
  • Manage and coordinate projects that involve the installation, testing, configuration, monitoring,
    troubleshooting, and maintenance of Information Technology (IT) networked systems as
    concerns connectivity for the IT systems
  • Plan, integrate, and schedule the installation of new or modified hardware and components of
    networked systems including Local Area Networks (LANs), Wide Area Networks (WANs), and
    Metropolitan Area Network (MANs)
  • Implement IT security procedures, practices, and tools to all supported IT systems in
    accordance with BLM, Department Of Interior, (DOI), National Institute o Standards and Technology, (NIST), and other appropriate Federal policies, to ensure the application of appropriate security measures are applied
  • Troubleshoot Local Area Network and Applications level performance issues
  • Configure and install Local Area switches to include supporting user or device adds, moves,
    deletes, and other switch configuration for site switches
  • Support the resolution of hardware interconnectivity, interface, and interoperability problems
  • Provide ad hoc training for users as required
  • Supports a wide variety of hardware systems resident in all or most BLM sites.

Qualifications

IT Competencies:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level in which you are applying:

You must have one year of full-time specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience must include activities such as: analyzing and making recommendations regarding network requirements, architecture, and infrastructure; installing, testing, maintaining, and regrading components consistent with network architecture; configuring and optimizing network servers, hubs, routers, firewalls and switches; diagnosing and resolving network problems; and developing network backup and recovery procedures.

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12level. (Must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. No award SF-50 will be accepted).

Working Conditions:
  • You may be required to travel, as needed, to any BLM offices for network support or training. The employee may be required to travel via scheduled commercial aircraft or passenger vehicle, both private and government.

  • The incumbent may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays or 24-hour call.
  • The incumbent's physical location is not defined or specified. The majority of this work can and will be performed remotely. The actual regular work location for each incumbent will be determined in concert with the Section Manager.
