The Lead Park Guide provides informational, interpretive and general services to park visitors, including presenting programs, interpreting natural, cultural and historic resources, and answering general information, recreation and orientation questions. The position also leads the work of seasonal employees, interns, and volunteers. This involves distributing and monitoring work assignments, providing on-the-job training and other instruction, and maintaining effective working relationships and communication.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position at the GS-6 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 level. Specialized Experience is experience that involved oral presentation of historical, scientific, or program information to groups; or developing and/or revising technical, historical, or scientific information for oral presentation to groups. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to, park guide or tour leader; park ranger; naturalist; environmental educator or teacher; or other similar work. You must include hours per week worked.
-OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one full year (18 semester hours or more) of graduate level education towards a master's degree in courses such as American history, science, communications, or other fields appropriate to this position.. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. For example, I have 6 months of the specialized experience described in A above (50% of the experience requirement), and 5 semester graduate college credits of related coursework as specified in B above from an accredited institution (50% of the qualifying education). Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.
Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Physical Demands: Standing for long periods of time, walking, bending, lifting of moderately heavy items and paddling and hiking are required, as are periods of sedentary work. Duties may be physically rigorous in an isolated outdoor environment during the delivery of programs, routine operations, etc.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors resulting in exposure to a variety of weather conditions. Work performed in the office can be stressful due to the number of visitors requiring assistance. Delivery of programs in the field is conducted on foot or on water, in remote backcountry settings, with exposure to a hazardous environment where the adherence to specific safety procedures and other precautions is required.
