WHAT DOES A CONTACT REPRESENTATIVE DO? IRS Contact Representatives work primarily with taxpayers and their representatives through telephone or face-to-face contact. You would provide authoritative tax law assistance and take action where needed to resolve their tax issues, often involving delinquent situations. Actions needed might include analyzing the taxpayer's ability to pay, initiating liens, and negotiating installment payment agreements.
WHAT IS THE WAGE & INVESTMENT (W&I) DIVISION?: The Wage & Investment Division (W&I) serves about 122 million taxpayers who file upwards of 94 million returns each year. Key W&I objectives are to provide high-quality taxpayer assistance, and to enable taxpayers to transact and communicate electronically to file their returns, make payments and receive assistance. W&I partners with private organizations to provide assistance to such disadvantaged groups as elderly and low-income taxpayers.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
- A 1-year probationary period is required.

Rating: You will respond to a series of questions designed to assess your possession of your potential (proficiency and capabilities) relative to the Contact Representative position. The JSAP is a series of online assessments and a job simulation designed to assess the following Contact Representative competencies: Applies Technology to Tasks, Customer Service, Conflict Management, Decision Making, Interpersonal Skills, Listening, Managing and Controlling Calls, Problem Solving, Speaking, and Writing. The JSAP takes about one hour to complete.
Category rating will be used to rank and select eligible candidates. Based upon your results from the JSAP on-line assessments you will be assigned to one of three quality level categories, (i.e., A = Superior, B = Highly Qualified, C= Qualified).
Veterans' preference is applied after applicants are assessed. Preference-eligibles will be listed at the top of their assigned category and considered before non-preference-eligibles in that category. Qualified preference-eligibles with a compensable service-connected disability of 10% or more will be listed at the top of the highest category.
Referral: If you are among the top qualified candidates, your application may be referred to a selecting official for consideration. You may be required to participate in a selection interview (telephonic and/or in person at the discretion of the Selecting Official in accordance with hiring polices). We will notreimburse costs related to the interview such as travel to and from the interview site.
