The FHCC is a first-of-its-kind partnership between the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA), and Department of Navy (DoN)/Department of Defense (DoD). It is larger than just a single facility, but rather it is a fully-integrated medical care facility with a single combined VA and Navy mission. The combined mission of the FHCC means active duty military and their family members, military retirees, and eligible veterans receive health care at this facility.

The registered nurse (RN) on the inpatient acute care unit functions as an integral member of the Interdisciplinary Medical/Surgical/Telemetry Team to provide healthcare which maximizes the quality of life for Veterans, Department of Defense (DOD) beneficiaries (active duty and retired), and their family members. The RN role includes initial and ongoing, physical and psychosocial assessment/reassessment to determine the patient's nursing care needs. It is the synthesis of data from various assessments, problem identification, care planning, monitoring and evaluation of the patient. The RN is actively involved in the following patient concepts of care: support systems; strengths/areas for growth; advocacy; discharge planning; and collaboration with other healthcare providers to optimize wellness and comfort. The RN will also give immediate attention and response to critical events and assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the patient's experience with pain.
Major Duties & Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Work Schedule: PM shift from 3:30 pm - 12:00 am; occasionally may be necessary to rotate to other shifts; will work rotating weekends and holidays.
Functional Statement: Registered Nurse (Inpatient Medical/Surgical/Telemetry)
Physical Requirements: To perform in a fully successful manner, the individual must have the physical ability to perform job-related duties which include: moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds; moderate carrying, 15-44 pounds; pushing (1 hour/day); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers; both hands required; walking (2-5 hours/day); standing (2-6 hours/day); ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously; far vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other; near vision correctable in one eye to 20/20 and to.20/40 in the other; both eyes required; depth perception; ability to distinguish basic colors; hearing (aid permitted); and prolonged siting up to 4 hours. Administrative duties include: computer key board typing, computer screen viewing, answering/placing telephone calls, and note taking. Exposure to the following environment factors can be expected: working closely with others and protracted or irregular hours of work (may be required to rotate to alternate shift including night tours of duty). A health examination, as required by the Occupational Health Clinic policy, must be successfully completed prior to this assignment and periodically thereafter. There will be intermittent exposure to blood and body fluids.
