Duties

Help

  • Serve as a consultant and technical advisor with responsibility for developing, implementing, and managing geospatial technological applications, assessments, and projects in support of BLM business activities and special initiatives (e.g. Rapid Ecoregional Assessments; Assessment, Inventory, and Monitoring Strategy; Greater Sage Grouse Initiative) over a wide geographic area (e.g. state or region)
  • Recognize that geospatial information is critical for managing public lands-for understanding natural resource relationships, environmental interactions, social and economic impacts, and environmental performance.
  • Provide a unique combination of geospatial and ecological skills to facilitate the integration of landscape scale data and processes into state and/or regional level decision making and business practices.
  • Support land management activities in landscape ecology, adaptive management, ecological process modeling, and monitoring.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet (1) BASIC Requirement *AND* the ADDITIONAL Requirement described below. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience . BASIC REQUIREMENT GS-0150 (Geography Series)
A.
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's or higher in geography; or related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields.
OR,
B. Have a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major in geography, or a related physical or social science such as geology, meteorology, economics, statistics, sociology, anthropology, political science, history, cartography, computer science, urban studies, or planning that included at least 24 semester hours in geography or related fields, plus the appropriate experience or additional education.

BASIC REQUIREMENT GS-0401(Natural Resources Management and Biological Sciences Series)
A.
Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's or higher in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR,
B. Have a combination of education and experience with courses equivalent to a major in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

BASIC REQUIREMENT GS-0408 (Ecology Series) Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree or higher in biology, or a related field of science underlying ecological research that included at least 30 semester hours in basic and applied biological sciences. These hours must have included at least 9 semester hours in ecology, and 12 semester hours in physical and mathematical sciences.

Additional Qualification Requirements- To be considered minimally qualified for this position, in addition to (1) Basic Requirement above, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience below for the grade level (s) for which you are applying.

Specialized Experience GS-12: Applicants must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 level in the Federal Service (obtained either in the private or public sectors) performing the following: (1) conducting quantitative and qualitative evaluations of geospatial data products and applications for appropriate use for land management activities; (2) managing geospatial technological applications, assessments, and projects; (3) performing technical work related to spatial and non-spatial databases and data received from remote sensors; and (4) modifying ecological techniques and procedures affecting geospatial modeling, analysis, applications, and technology. (NOTE: Your resume MUST show all four duties listed to meet this requirement.)

TIME-IN-GRADE REQUIREMENTS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-11 is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-12 level. (Must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. No award SF-50 will be accepted).

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

There is no substitution of education for experience at the GS-12 grade level of this announcement.

Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary, requiring long periods of sitting in one position, intense concentration, and working for several hours at a time. Occasionally there may be some physical exertion such as walking; hiking; standing; bending; lifting; carrying of items; driving or riding in an automobile; etc.

Working Conditions: Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate controlled office. Occasional travel may be required. The incumbent will adhere to all safety rules and regulations as prescribed in manuals/supplements or designated by the Safety Officer.
