  • Provide support in the areas of operation, maintenance, troubleshooting. and repair of the large and complex systems utilized for air conditioning and heating of various historic and non-historic buildings, operating, installing. repairing. and maintaining several types of HVAC equipment.
  • Make repairs to electrical and mechanical evaporators their blowers, motors: install. service and maintain condensed cooling towers and their fans. fan motors, blowers, exhaust and water pumps.
  • Read and comprehend blueprint, technical manual, sketches, building plans an notes: follow manufacturer's instruction and safety manuals for tools, materials and equipment: Follow Local, State, Federal, and international building codes.
  • Ability to select required materials and number of materials needed.
  • Check and inspect equipment. tools, and systems to perform preventive maintenance corrective action.

  • Incidental Driving: You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year thereafter (or more frequently if management determines such need exists), you will be required to sign an affidavit certifying to your possession of a valid State issued driver's license that is current and has not been revoked, suspended, canceled, or otherwise disqualified in any way to prohibit your operation of a motor vehicle. You will also submit a photocopy of your valid State issued driver's license prior to your first official motor vehicle operation, and again every year, or more frequently if management determines such need exists. Lastly, you may be required to submit (within a State sealed envelope or submitted directly by the State authorities), and at your own expense, all certified driving records from all States that discloses all valid driver's licenses, whether current or past, possessed by you. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.
  • Uniform: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • Probationary Period: If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
  • Certification Requirement: You will be required to have an EPA Section 608 of the Clean Air Act Certification card and EPA number.

A Relocation Incentive May Be Authorized for a Federal employee when the employee must move, as directed by the National Park Service (NPS) either through a management directed reassignment or selection for employment, to a different location at least 50 miles away from the one where his/her position of record held at time of selection is currently located, due to a need of the NPS. A relocation incentive is not the same as a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move and, as such, may be granted in conjunction with one another.


Physical Demands: Usually works indoors from ladders, scaffolding, and where the systems and equipment worked on are in hard to reach places. However, may sometimes work outside in cramped areas with low overheads, manholes, in deep water sump, from ladders, piping, airlifts, scaffolds, around toxic refrigerants, and may be exposed to the possibility of electrical shock. Frequently lifts and carries equipment weighing up to 80 pounds. Incumbent must stand, stoop, bend, climb, and work in cramped positions for extended periods. Incumbent may be required to work overtime, weekends, or holidays to support special events, or respond to winter or destructive weather. Overtime may be required with little or no notice. May work during or following storms when the full Park staff is not present, to maintain safe walkways and meet conditions for opening the Park to staff, visitors, and local residents.


Working Conditions: The work is performed both inside and outside. All outdoor work will be performed in temperatures that range from 0 °F to 100°F, and in periods of full sunshine to rain, snow, sleep, or ice. Indoor work will be done on buildings varying from unheated to heated, and non air conditioned to air conditioned; is exposed to the possibility of cuts, bruises, shocks, bums, and broken bones.


Telework: The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.

Documentation for the Land Management Workforce Flexibility Act (LMWFA) eligibility, submission of ALL SF-50s and performance information for each period of temporary/term employment that qualifies for LMWFA. Performance documentation can be obtained by contacting the supervisors for the positions you served in during your 24 months. If they did not complete performance appraisals ask them to provide a statement of performance for each period of service. The statement must specify the dates for each employment period and your level of performance (dates should match the dates on the SF-50s).
