The workload of these positions varies during the year and is initially expected to last 8 - 10 months. The employees may work part-time during a portion of the year and full-time for the remainder. The employee's work schedule will be changed from part-time to full-time as workload dictates.
Important duties at the GS-06 level, include:
Lead field crews, assist GS7 field crew lead, and/or perform independent implementation of vegetation and ecological restoration project work including the following:
Controlling invasive exotic plants using a variety of herbicides as well as manual-mechanical methods.
Assisting in the implementation and monitoring of restoration, re-vegetation, and long-term monitoring projects for front country and wilderness restoration programs.
Using GPS to map vegetation and other features.
Identifying vascular plants to species level using dichotomous keys.
Leading volunteers.
Photo documentation of projects.
Using a variety of computer programs including Geographic Information System (GIS) software to compile, and report data and other resource management information.
Compiling and presenting educational programs to staff, volunteers and the public.
Assist in preparing reports, plans, and guidelines. Maintain and organize computer databases.
Install, operate, and maintain resource management equipment. Perform equipment inventories, evaluate quality assurance compliance, order and calibrate parts and equipment/supplies.
Provide training to others involved in resource management projects and field research.
At the GS-07 level, in addition to duties listed above, you may:
Assist staff in planning field research and resource monitoring programs. Schedule, coordinate and carry out a variety of field activities.
Develop and use databases to enter, organize and perform preliminary analysis of collected field data using standard statistical methods.
Provide work direction and guidance to lower graded technicians, volunteers, or interns.
Assist in preparing reports and provide information to individuals, local organizations and schools.
Yosemite National Park, California, known worldwide for its spectacular natural beauty is the backdrop for this position. Sitting astride the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the park covers 1,182 square miles of varied wilderness ecosystems, from river valleys to alpine meadows to lofty 13,000 foot high peaks. Yosemite Valley is located 208 miles from San Francisco, 81 miles from Merced, and 94 miles from Fresno. Shopping, medical, postal and laundry services are available in the park. Elevation at the Valley floor is approximately 4,000 feet and 2,200 feet in El Portal. The park is open year-round with the majority of activities occurring during the busy season March through October.

Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-11/05/2021-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.
Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. SELECTIVE FACTOR: This position performs exotic plant management work, and uses chemical control methods to manage exotic plants and noxious weeds. Willingness to use herbicides to control invasive plants is required. EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-05 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: 1) executing field studies on plants and plant ecology; 2) working with field crews in non-native plant eradication; 3) implementing erosion control, hydrologic restoration, re-vegetation projects; 4) reporting data and other resource management information (e.g., natural science research or long-term monitoring projects); and 5) using standard statistical methods in the preparation of draft reports. You must include hours per week worked.
-OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least one year of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree with a major study in a related field such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture or mathematics. At least 6 semester hours in any of these courses must be directly related to the position to be filled. You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take the number of semester hours (or equivalent) earned towards a graduate degree and divide by 18 semester hours (or equivalent). Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. Add the percentages together. The total must equal at least 100 percent to qualify. You must include transcripts.
To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess at least one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

This experience includes activities such as: 1) collecting monitoring data on assorted physical restoration and vegetation management projects using specified sampling techniques and procedures; 2) monitoring rare, threatened or endangered (RTE) plants and sensitive plants and updating RTE and sensitive plant maps and files; 3) developing plans and coordinating a diversity of ecological restoration projects (e.g., scheduling personnel, purchasing supplies, developing action plans, implementing the project and completing written and photographic documentation); 4) monitoring construction projects for compliance with natural resource specifications; and 5) leading field crews in exotic plant control or restoration projects. You must include hours per week worked.

Physical Demands: The work is partially sedentary with prolonged standing, walking, and bending often required. Heavy items (e.g., equipment and packs up to 50 pounds) must be lifted and carried on a routine basis.
