CAREER SEASONAL: This is a Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee is guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment.
The typical season for Johnstown Flood National Memorial is May through March annually, but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions. NONPAY TIME is in April (pay period 8 and 9) annually.
MAJOR DUTIES:
This position is duty stationed at Johnstown Flood and is part of a Centrally Managed Cluster named Western Pennsylvania Parks and employees may be required at times to report to any of the 5 parks within the WEPA jurisdiction with little to short notice.
In this position, you will perform a variety of duties to include:
-Grounds, trail, road and building repairs, maintenance, custodial duties, and facility improvement projects;
-Simple and routine repairs of grounds, structures, buildings, equipment and utilities;
-Minor carpentry repairs using simple measures and hand tools;
-Minor painting using brush and roller; minor plumbing;
-Assisting higher graded maintenance workers in more complex work;
-Strenuous physical assignments such as ditch digging, brush removal and trail maintenance.
-Work outside under all kinds of weather conditions.
-Use a variety of equipment and tools including driving a pick-up truck on public roads, complex riding mowers, tractors, chain saws, weed eaters, and various other power and hand tools in your assignments.
-Operate equipment in a safe manner and complete routine maintenance on the equipment and tools.
Physical Demands: Works from ladders, scaffolds and platforms and where surfaces are to be coated, or the parts of systems worked on are hard to reach that require incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds.
Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside where dirty, spray, and fumes are present. Also required to work in inclement weather and/or wear protective equipment and clothing that are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable.

DRIVER'S LICENSE: You will be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties; a valid driver's license is required. UNIFORM: You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
WORK SCHEDULE: You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
PROBATIONARY PERIOD: If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
TRAVEL: You may be required to travel overnight away from home up to 5 nights per month. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
GOVERNMENT CHARGE CARD: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
RELOCATION: Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.
Qualifications
Possess knowledge and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform work as a Maintenance Worker, WG-4749-05 without more than normal supervision. Experience is defined as: 1)General landscaping and grounds maintenance such as cutting grass with a push/riding mower, weed eaters and pruners; 2)basic carpentry; 3)simple electrical installations or repairs; 4)basic plumbing work; painting interior and exterior surfaces; 5)janitorial services including cleaning sinks, toilets, sweeping and mopping floors and stocking supplies; 6)use of measuring devices; reading and following work instructions and following safety protocol.

Perform a full range of the Maintenance Worker tasks listed above on own initiative and under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.
OR
Perform at least 3 of the Maintenance Worker tasks listed above under general supervision subject to occasional inspection.
