Federal Employees to include current or former permanent competitive federal employees, those eligible under LMWFA, Veterans, and other special appointing authorities
Duties of this position include supporting Isle Royale National Park and Keweenaw National Historical Park with the following:
Workstation maintenance to include troubleshooting hardware failure, resolving workstation issues and problems, and replacing workstation components.
Perform server system administration and support including monitoring and restoring backups, and managing shared server resources.
Manage LAN/WAN/VSAT systems and hardware.
Provide support on remote access, workstation remote access network server connectivity and workstation connectivity to include troubleshooting, basic setup, and maintenance.
Provide data network support to users by troubleshooting network issues, isolating problems with network components, performing setup and maintenance, and support and install cable installations as needed.
Provide technical support for application software such as word processing, database, spreadsheet, and electronic mail.
Implement network and information technology services to comply with security policies and practices.
Duties will be developmental in nature when filled below the full performance level.
Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
Meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
Selectee will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
Any individual who is currently holding, or has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet time-in-grade requirements (must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent in the Federal service).
You may be required to operate a government (or private) motor vehicle as part of your official duties. Please indicate in your application whether you possess a valid State driver's license.
Employee will split time between the island and the mainland during the operating season (late April - early October). Occupancy of government quarters will be provided on the island.
You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, and overtime.
If you are a new permanent employee in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
You may be required to travel overnight away from home up. You must obtain a government charge card for travel purposes.
You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position at the GS-9 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
EXPERIENCE: At least one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors). This experience includes activities such as: implementing and maintaining network and systems services; monitoring network and systems performance and troubleshooting problems; documenting and initiating response to security problems; or providing guidance and training to customers in accessing network and systems services. You must include hours per week worked. IF your resume fails to show hours worked per week for your work histories, you will be found not qualified.
-OR- EDUCATION: Successful completion of at least a Masters or equivalent graduate degree, or two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management, or I possess such a degree that included a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. (One year of graduate education is 18 semester hours or 27 quarter hours). You must include transcripts.

Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above.

To qualify for this position at the GS-11 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:

Volunteer Experience: Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. Education

Physical Demands: The work is primarily sedentary, with occasional walking, bending and light lifting.
Working Conditions: The work is performed in an office setting with occasional visits to the field work sites. Occupancy of Government housing on a remote Wilderness Island is required six months of the year; no Government housing is available off the island. Island living is somewhat primitive with limited amenities. Groceries are ordered in writing form the mainland and delivered on a weekly basis. Living conditions are isolated and offer little privacy. Weather is often harsh and subject to quick change. There are long periods of fog and severe storms from Lake Superior.
